D’Youville Expands COVID-19 Testing Options for Public

Buffalo, New York – April, 2021 – The D’Youville School of Pharmacy, which has offered COVID-19 rapid antigen tests since February, is now offering three different types of testing to the public at a convenient campus location.

Testing is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday thru Friday, in the lobby of the D’Youville Academic Center, 242 Fargo Ave., Buffalo. No insurance or prescription is necessary, but individuals must register for a particular test and time at go.dyc.edu/rapid-test.

In addition to the rapid antigen tests, D’Youville now offers COVID RT-PCR tests, considered the most accurate for COVID detection, and COVID antibody tests to check for previous infection and/or immunity.

The rapid antigen test uses a minimally-invasive nasal swab, with results available in as little as 15 minutes. It is intended for individuals suspected of COVID-19 within the first seven days of the onset of symptoms. Individuals can receive results via email or through the NAVICA app, available through the Apple Store or Google Play. The app also can be used to access approved results if needed for air travel or employment. The tests are offered at a reduced rate of $39 per test.

The COVID RT-PCR test is considered the most accurate test for detecting a COVID-19 infection. It is a diagnostic test using a sample taken using a minimally invasive nasal swab or nasopharyngeal swab. It is best for individuals who tested negative on a rapid test but are still displaying symptoms, and for people who are traveling internationally, including to Canada. Results can be available in either 24 or 48 hours and will be sent via email. The cost is $125 for 48-hour results or $160 for expedited 24-hour results.

The antibody test detects antibodies developed in response to the virus after infection or vaccination, using a drop of blood from a simple finger stick. It does not diagnose an active infection. The antibody test is best for individuals who think they were previously infected or are looking for an indication of a level of immunity after vaccination. The cost is $40 per test, with results available in 15 minutes or sent via email.

Tests are performed by licensed pharmacists or by licensed pharmacy interns from the D’Youville School of Pharmacy under supervision. Photo identification and masks are required.

The pharmacy school is also coordinating on-site, group testing for local businesses, schools, and for special events, such as weddings. Anyone interested in scheduling on-site group testing for a group should contact covidtesting@dyc.edu.
