EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP (EDD)

The Educational Leadership doctoral program at D’Youville was the best educational experience I have ever had! The faculty provided individualized attention, supporting me in pursuing my research interests; my fellow students were a constant source of support and inspiration. Each course offered a unique blend of significant theories and best practices in higher education.

Agnieszka Zak-Moskal, '14, uses the knowledge and skills she gained in the Educational Leadership program to drive initiatives as Director of Student Success at Villa Maria College.

During my time in the Educational Leadership program, I researched numerous topics related to student success including the role of technology, emotional intelligence, and motivation. My dissertation focused on the role of intrinsic motivation in fostering student success in a technology-enhanced curriculum. This work lead to numerous conference presentations, workshops, and consulting opportunities.

Every day I am able to apply what I have learned during my doctoral studies.

Immediately after defending my dissertation, I was offered my dream job, based on the research and work I had completed in the program. As Director of Student Success at Villa Maria College, I implemented a plan for the College’s new Student Success Center. My accomplishments include an increase in first-year retention, an increase in the number of students in good academic standing, and an increase in passing rates for courses supported with supplemental instruction.

D'Youville Insights

Every day I am able to apply what I have learned during my doctoral studies. My doctoral experiences also prepared me to support my institution in a variety of ways, for example, by serving on the Middle States (reaccreditation) Stirring Committee and charring the College’s Environmental Scan Committee focused on examining trends in higher education to inform the College’s strategic plan.

In short, the Educational Leadership doctoral program provided me the platform I needed to advance my career in higher education, opening up to me a world of opportunities through the professors I worked with, the students I met, and the knowledge and skill I gained.
