EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP (EDD)

The D'Youville EDL program honors the work of practitioners while providing a foundation in theory to inform that practice. The most significant part of the program was having the opportunity to step outside my daily leadership practice in order to provide context for the work in my district as part of a broader cultural, political, and social conversation about the nature of education.

Catherine Huber combined her work in education with the skills and knowledge she developed in the program to examine public education in new ways.

My research considered the expectations of school principals as analogy for the broader contested purpose of public education. My study looked at three periods of American public education and the changing role of the principal in each period as a marker of an intensifying neoliberal imposition on the work of public education.

What I appreciated most about the structure of the program was learning with my colleagues and from outstanding faculty members.

My dissertation exemplifies for me what is most important about the program. My daily practice provided context for my study. The program provided the skills and knowledge to analyze that daily practice as part of a broader examination of public education.

What I appreciated most about the structure of the program was learning with my colleagues and from outstanding faculty members. My experience forced me to ask better questions which led not only to a reconsider of some of what I believed but allowed me to broaden my thinking about public education.

My experience in this program reinforced and strengthened my commitment to the work of public education in ways that I did not anticipate. Learning in the EDL program made me a stronger leader. I would encourage any leader who wants to learn and grow and to understand their work on a deeper level to strongly consider the EDL program at D'Youville.
