D'Youville's Healthcare Hackathon is a unique virtual competition that partners teams with community healthcare providers to develop solutions to our community's most plaguing healthcare problems. Starting on October 5, teams will work collaboratively to craft novel solutions for their partner institutions, attend virtual events, and participate in active, online learning experiences. After a week, they'll pitch their solutions to local healthcare leaders and the top teams will be awarded prizes.

A Diverse Team

Teams with up to 5 individuals each will compete for prizes. Create a diverse team with members of any age, background, or experience level to work together.

A Connected Virtual Experience

During the hackathon week, you'll work with your team to craft a solution to a partner problem while also joining your peers at info sessions and online experiences.

Prizes + Support

Hackathon winners will receive seed money to develop and deploy their solutions, along with incubator and development space from D'Youville.

HealthCare Leadership

Compete with other peers and experts working at the center of technology and healthcare in an event sponsored by a nationally-ranked university with a history and vision for healthcare innovation.

One Week. Concept. Develop. Pitch.

Claim your partner. Define your problem. Craft a solution and create your video pitch in one week. Solutions should not have been previously piloted. Panelists will choose the best of the best. Can you do it?

The D'Youville Higher Ed Hackathon is designed to develop real solutions to real problems. Read the challenges below and pick the three that speak to you and your team when you sign-up. Before the hackathon starts, we'll let you know which challenge you'll be working on, and then it's up to you to develop, pitch, and win.

  Consumer Experience

Consumer experience is an influencer to health outcomes. Present a solution to ensure that the patient experience is convenient, streamlined, and empowers the patient for positive behavior change.


Partnerships between medical and non-medical services are key to overcoming barriers to better health outcomes. Present a solution to establish intentional collaborations between the healthcare community and community-based organizations to improve society’s health and wellness.

  Accessibility to Care 

Accessibility to care often causes a delay in the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses. Provide a solution that utilizes telehealth and/or wearable technology to increase patients’ access to health care.

Prevention and Health Promotion

America’s increasing chronic care needs to highlight the importance of prevention and health promotion. Present a population-based prevention strategy that can be easily adopted in the public health system.

History of the Healthcare Hackathon

The inaugural Healthcare Hackathon was held over the course of two days on the D'Youville campus. Competitors from diverse backgrounds, areas of expertise, and strengths competed to design and pitch solutions to real-world problems. Three teams were awarded prizes to continue the development of their solutions: Journey, Ally Health, and Healthcare Transformers.
