D’Youville Graduation Information

D’Youville College, celebrating its 100th anniversary, is also celebrating its 100th graduating class this coming May 17th. You may ask if we started 100 years ago how is it that we are graduating our 100th class? The answer is that during World War II the college offered an accelerated program that resulted in “additional” graduating classes in 1945 – 1947. Thus, in our 100th year we are also celebrating our 100th graduating class.

This year’s commencement will take place on Saturday, May 17, at Kleinhans Music Hall. The ceremony will begin at 9:00 AM, with doors opening at 8:00 AM. This is a ticketed event and tickets must be procured prior to the event. Contact 829-8100 for more ticket information.

The keynote speaker for this event will be the Honorable Kevin M. Dillon, chairperson of the D’Youville College Board of Trustees and one of Western New York’s outstanding community leaders. Mr. Dillon will also be presented with an honorary degree from the college. The student salutatory address will be given by Keren Shavit-Buckley, a member of the class of 2008 from the Occupational Therapy Department.

This year’s commencement will also include the Buffalo Philharmonic Brass and the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus , and will also recognize the graduating class of 1958, who will be celebrating their 50th anniversary. A reception will follow in the D’Youville College Center.

On Friday evening May 16th, the Interfaith Hooding Ceremony, also known as The Baccalaureate Service, will be held at Holy Angels Church, which is adjacent to the college on Porter Avenue. The service will begin at 7:30 PM, and doors will open at 6:15 PM.

The keynote address will be given by the Most Reverend Edward U. Kmiec, Bishop of the Diocese of Buffalo. Bishop Kmiec will also receive an honorary degree from the college. The service itself will consist of readings and music, as well as the keynote address. In addition graduating students will have their academic hoods placed upon them by members of the D’Youville faculty. A reception will follow in the D’Youville College Center.
