The Importance of Community Service

Do you remember waving your hand enthusiastically showing your willingness to help? That hand raising gesture so early on in your life demonstrated a willingness to volunteer. Here are some of the reasons why volunteering is so important to you and others:

  • To help someone
  • To improve the community
  • To move from your comfort zone
  • To build new relationships
  • To enhance your resume and establish community connections

Current Opportunities

Lending a Hand 2009
Thirty seven DYCers travelled to New Orleans to assist in rebuilding efforts. This photo is taken at the Industrial Canal levy in the lower Ninth Ward. This year the team helped with finishing touches on four homes making them ready for occupancy.

Friends of the Night People
The second Wednesday of every month provides an opportunity for our D’Youville community to serve a meal at Friends of the Night People. We meet at Campus Ministry at 4:15 PM and return to campus by 7:30 PM. If you are interested in being part of a crew for a particular month, please contact Rev. Jan Mahle at 829-7693 or via email at mahle@dyc.edu.

For more information or to volunteer for any of these opportunities, please contact the Campus Ministry Office in ALT 319 at 829-7693.
