Computer and Network Services
Computer and Network Services (CNS) provides the infrastructure and technical support necessary for many services on campus including email, web access, file and print sharing, and application support for distance learning, the library and administrative offices. We take pride in being a wired campus, providing high-speed network access in our offices, classrooms and dorms. VPN access is also provided on a limited basis, and technical support is available free of charge to the college community.
DYCnet Usage Policy
The primary purpose of DYCnet is to provide academic and administrative support to our students, faculty and staff to enhance the educational experience here at D’Youville. Therefore, excessive recreational or abusive use of our technical resources will result in the termination of service to the abuser. If a computer is found to have a virus infected or unpatched operating system, or has malicious code that adversely impacts the network, service will be terminated until that computer is verified to be clean. Likewise, users abusing network resources through access privileges will have their access rights reduced accordingly, and in extreme cases, their accounts disabled.
All faculty, staff and students at D’Youville are given a dyc.edu email account. The goal is to ensure that we can effectively communicate with each other through email. The dyc.edu email is used as an official means of communication; therefore, all users are responsible for the consequences of not checking their email on a regular basis. Email forwarding has been made available to students at their own risk. D’Youville will not be held responsible for poor email communications, account quotas, lost or mis-routed emails and delays resulting from the use of non-dyc.edu email addresses. A lost email as a result of an email redirection (auto-forward) does not absolve the student from their academic responsibilities. The use of dyc.edu email shall be consistent with D’Youville policies as well as local, state and federal laws including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Though email is treated as an official form of communication at D’Youville, it is not a secure means of communication. Therefore, highly sensitive data should not be passed through email.
By logging on to your DYCnet account, you indicate your acceptance of D’Youville's computer and network usage policies. Failure to adhere to these policies may result in the elimination of your account privileges and/or disciplinary action.
