D’Youville Names Three New Members to Board of Trustees

Buffalo, New York – May, 2022 – At their spring meeting the D’Youville Board of Trustees approved the addition of three new members to serve three-year terms. They are Matthew Shriver, Patti Stephen, and Sam Burruano.


Matthew Shriver is the Vice President of Administration and Chief Financial Officer of YMCA Buffalo Niagara, a charitable community-based organization committed to providing programs designed to build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Throughout his twenty-seven years’ experience in non-profit leadership, Mr. Shriver has played a vital role in major undertakings including the merger with the Lockport YMCA, development of the strategic plan, and the financing of new facilities such as the Southtowns, Independent Health and Lockport YMCAs. Prior to his work with the YMCA, Mr. Shriver was the Controller of the Salvation Army’s Buffalo Area Services. A graduate of D’Youville College, Mr. Shriver serves as the treasurer of the board of directors of Autism Services and is a lifelong resident of Western New York. He resides in Alden, NY with his wife and three grown children.

Patti L. Stephen is the Robert G. Wilmers Endowed Executive Director of Buffalo Prep, an academic enrichment program providing a robust pipeline of academic programming for underrepresented students. In her role as executive director, Patti promotes an agenda of anti-racist work, educational equity and racial justice across Buffalo Prep’s community-wide partnerships. She is passionate about the Western New York region, educational and racial equity. With over 20 years of experience in the Buffalo nonprofit world Patti has served on several boards and committees, including her current service with the National Partnership for Educational Access (NPEA), Buffalo Olmstead Parks Conservancy, the Education Collaborative of WNY (EdCo), the University at Buffalo’s GSE Dean’s Advisory and Teacher Residency Advisory Councils and the Child and Family Services Justice Advisory Committee. She resides in North Buffalo with her husband and four children.


Sam Burruano has represented the financial services industry on legal and regulatory matters for over twenty eight years. In his role as Executive Vice President: Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary for Financial Institutions, Inc. ("FISI"), Sam provides executive leadership and strategic direction, is responsible for all legal matters, and oversees governance and internal audit functions. Prior to joining FISI, Sam served as Assistant General Counsel and Assistant Corporate Secretary for First Niagara Bank where he delivered legal and regulatory advice to the Bank's Retail Banking and Consumer Lending Lines of Business. Sam has earned Martindale-Hubbell's top "AV Preeminent" Peer Review Rating, has been recognized in the Who's Who In Law by Business First and the Buffalo Law Journal, and in 202 was the recipient of the Corporate Counsel Award by the Daily Record and Rochester Business Journal. In 2020, Sam was the recipient of the Corporate Counsel Award by the Daily Record and Rochester Business Journal. Sam graduated with honors from both Cleveland Marshall College of Law and the University of Buffalo where he earned a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Business.
