Travelers to Canada Can Get Rapid PCR COVID Test at D’Youville

Buffalo, New York – August 9th, 2021–  D’Youville’s Vital Pharmacy, located in its new Health Professions Hub at 159 Porter Avenue, Buffalo NY (14201) is offering two types of PCR tests for Americans who plan to travel across the Canadian border when it opens next week.

One test will offer results in only 30 minutes, while the second will send results within 24 to 48 hours of testing.

The Canadian border is set to open on Monday, August 9, for Americans who are vaccinated against COVID-19 and who have tested negative for COVID within 72 hours of their trip. However, the only test the Canadian government will accept is the molecular polymerase chain reaction test, known as the PCR test. Results from rapid antigen tests will not be accepted. The PCR test is known as the “gold standard” for COVID-19 tests.

“We are thrilled we can offer PCR tests for people who want to visit Canada,” says Michael Mac Evoy, PharmD, director of pharmacy services at the Hub. “With a Same-Day Test offering results in only 30 minutes, plus our close proximity to the Canadian border, we will be a great resource for those who have last-minute travel plans.”

The Same-Day Rapid PCR Test available at Vital Pharmacy will provide results in only 30 minutes via a personal email. The test is collected by a nasal swab. The cost of the test is $140 and no insurance or prescription is required.

Vital Pharmacy also offers the PCR Send-Off Test, with results available within 24 to 48 hours, for a reduced cost of $100. Again, the test is via nasal swab and no insurance or prescription is required.
Rapid Antigen Test can be done in 15 minutes and results will be emailed or giving back in person in 25 minutes. Travelers can also have a Rapid Antibody test done, with results back to their email or in person in 20 minutes.
