49 Days, 2800 Miles, One Reason
For many college students, the summer after freshman year is spent at home catching up with friends and family after a busy first year on campus, but for sophomore health services management major Alison Gareis, it meant traveling across the country, seeing the U.S., and running in support of a cause.
As a member of D’Youville’s cross country and lacrosse teams, running happens to be Alison’s favorite way to travel. Over the course of 49 days, she and her team ran from San Francisco, California to Baltimore, Maryland in support of the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults.
After raising nearly $5,700 herself, Gareis tells the story of her summer and why she decided to run.
