Four Students Honored by NYS Society of Certified Public Accountants

Buffalo, New York - May 04, 2018 - The Buffalo Chapter of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) held its annual Education Night Dinner on Tuesday, April 24. Four students from D’Youville were honored at the event for their academic achievements during the year.

Edward Kerber BS/MS ’18 received the NYSSCPA Graduate Student Award of Honor, Suljo Mehmedovic BS/MS ’18 and Tiffany Dentice ’18 both received the NYSSCPA Senior Student Award of Honor, and Susan Phelps ’19 received the John T. Kennedy Memorial Award for overall academic excellence.

The NYSSCPA Education Night Dinner honors the outstanding junior, senior and graduate accounting students at Western New York colleges and universities. Over 380 CPAs, professors, students and guests were in attendance at the event.

“We are extremely proud of our outstanding Accounting students who excel in the classroom. They represent D’Youville well and will be fine additions to the Accounting profession,” said Joseph Kabacinski, CPA, assistant professor in the D’Youville Business/Accounting Department.

Kerber is in the five-year program leading to dual Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. He has the highest grade point average (GPA) in Accounting course work for a graduate student in the 5 year BS/MS combined program at D’Youville. This May, Kerber will complete the requirements for his Master’s Degree in Accounting/International Business. He completed an Accounting/Auditing internship with Blue Cross/Blue Shield and now works as an intern at Drescher & Malecki, CPAs and upon graduation will start there full time. After passing the first three parts of the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam, he plans to pass the last part before graduation this spring.

Mehmedovic is senior in the five-year BS/MS combined program at D’Youville. He has the highest GPA in Accounting course work for a senior in the five-year BS/MS combined program at D’Youville. This May, Mehmedovic will complete requirements for his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He completed an Accounting internship at Iskalo Development Corp. and is now working at Iskalo Development Corp. as a part-time accountant. He is a member of the D’Youville Student Management Association and plans to finish requirements of his dual degree program and sit for the CPA exam.

Dentice will complete her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting in May 2018. She has the highest GPA in Accounting course work for a senior graduating in the four-year BS-Accounting program at D’Youville. She will complete her Bachelor’s degree in Accounting in May 2018. She is completing an internship at D & M Heating and Cooling.  Dentice works as a direct support assistant for Western New York Development Disabilities Services Office. She is married and has a beautiful daughter named Elenor and stepdaughter named Eliza. She is a US Veteran.

Phelps has the highest GPA of all junior Accounting majors at D’Youville. She served as an active member of the US Army for eight years. Phelps began her Accounting studies at D'Youville College in 2016 and has been named to the Dean's List every semester. She is an active member of the D’Youville Student Management Association and donates her time helping those in need. She plans to finish requirements for her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and sit for the CPA exam.
