D’Youville to Offer Online Long Term Care Certificate
Buffalo, New York - April 27, 2018 - An article published in The Atlantic entitled “Health Care Just Became the U.S.’s Largest Employer” states that due to the aging of the country’s population, healthcare jobs have surpassed manufacturing and retail to become the largest source of jobs in the U.S.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the healthcare sector is projected to account for a third of all new employment and five of the ten jobs projected to see the fastest percent growth are in healthcare and elderly assistance.
Remaining on the forefront of the healthcare field, D’Youville will begin fully offering its Long Term Care Administration certificate online in the fall of 2018. Offered through the Health Services Administration department in the School of Health Professions, the program provides students with the knowledge and skills to meet the educational requirements for licensure of nursing home administrator in New York state.
“Every day 10,000 baby boomers turn 65,” said Lisa Rafalson, PhD, chair and associate professor of the Health Services Administration department. “The increased number of elder individuals, as well as the increased proportion of the population that requires long term care services is also growing.”
The two fastest growing occupations, personal-care aides and home-health aides, will account for one in every ten new jobs, according to The Atlantic article. D’Youville’s Long Term Care Administration certificate can be completed in as little as 18 months, giving students the best chance for early success in high-demand healthcare fields.
“The workforce needs workers at all levels who can address the needs of this growing population and D’Youville is helping fill that need,” added Rafalson.
