D’Youville Extends its Reach Across the Globe to Asia

Buffalo, New York – March 01, 2018 – As D’Youville continues to produce high-quality teachers here in Western New York, the school is looking to help do the same across the globe in India. Partnering with JBCN Education, India’s leading educational hub, and ChalkBoard School Solutions, the organizations will launch India’s first-ever online course for practicing teachers titled, Professional Masters in Education.

D’Youville President Lorrie Clemo, PhD, spoke at the Nation of Learning Excellence “Mindfulness in Education” conference in January. “D’Youville has been recognized for producing leaders in global education,” Clemo said. “This collaboration will enhance the quality of teaching professionals shaping the minds of generations to come."

The one-year course, which is open to anyone across Asia, looks to set a benchmark in teaching training in the area, as faculty members from D’Youville will have the opportunity to deliver face-to-face classes in Mumbai. The course aims to bring quality professional development opportunities to teachers in the hopes to impact the largest number of children possible.

“Our aim is to globalize the campus,” says Joggeshwar (Jogy) Das, vice president of institutional effectiveness and planning. “Whether that’s bringing students here or sending faculty elsewhere it will help us learn about other cultures. Our intent is that this will be a way for our faculty to reach out and interact with people outside of the boundaries of D’Youville.”

The students in India will a focus on advanced knowledge in educational foundations, learning theory, multiculturalism, inclusion, and critical issues in the field of education. They will also receive a certificate of completion for each course or module they finish while those who complete the entire MS in Education program will be awarded a diploma from D’Youville and have the option to walk at graduation.

D’Youville’s School of Arts, Sciences and Education faculty, and in turn its own students, look to benefit immensely. “Those that are taking these courses are going to bring different cultural perspectives to the class. Our faculty will then be able to draw on those discussions back here in their own classrooms,” adds Das.

It’s said that children are our future, and D’Youville looks to have a large role in that future both locally and globally.
