Buffalo, New York – April 12, 2017 – The D’Youville College Student Veterans Association is hosting the 2017 Western New York Laps for Limbs fundraiser to help raise money for veterans and local children with prosthetic limbs.

The event will run from April 27 to 30 and be highlighted by the American Veteran Traveling Tribute Vietnam Memorial Wall to be displayed at nearby Front Park.

On Wednesday, April 26, the wall will be escorted by local bikers, members of the Hogs and Heroes organization, from Darien Lake State Park to Front Park, arriving at approximately 3:00 PM.

Participants can sign-up to run, walk, or roll as many laps as possible during the specified time slot. Each participant finds sponsors who donate either per lap or a specified donation and collects the money following the event.

Laps for Limbs is an ability-focused community organization that raises awareness and funds for those with amputations. Participants complete as many laps as they can – walking, running, and rolling and raise funds through donations.

The inaugural event took place in March 2012 in Hamburg, N.Y. with 30 participants raising $4600. To date, the event has raised more than $33,000 and has accumulated over 1000 miles worth of laps.

The traveling Vietnam Wall is an 80-percent scale replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. The over 57,000 names on the tribute will be on display for public viewing.

A D’Youville nursing graduate, Captain Eleanor Grace Alexander ’61, who died on November 30, 1967 while serving in Vietnam with the 85th Evac Hospital, is one of only eight women on the wall.
