D’Youville to Hold Annual Honors Convocation March 8

Buffalo, New York – February 17, 2017 – Buffalo, February 16, 2017 – D’Youville College will hold its 58th annual Honors Convocation on Wednesday March 8, 2017 at Kleinhans Music Hall beginning at 2:00 PM.

More than 800 individuals including family and friends of the students are expected to attend the event that honors D’Youville students for their academic achievements.

Students will be recognized for their inclusion on the college’s Dean’s List, Who’s Who Among American Colleges and Universities, membership in the Lambda Sigma Honor Society, as well as members of the National Adult Honor Society.

Dr. Lorrie A. Clemo, D’Youville president, will confer the honors and awards including the college’s highest honor, the D’Youville Medal. It is awarded to a student who is outstanding in academic achievement, possesses excellent character, and has demonstrated service and loyalty to the college.

The college will also award the Grey Nun Medal to a graduate student possessing the same set of achievements and characteristics.

The featured speaker will be Mr. John Grandy, RPA-C, a physician assistant who graduated from D’Youville in 2004. He is employed by Staff Care, a national agency providing substitute or replacement health care professionals in a variety of settings. He established the “John Grandy Physician Assistant Award” at the college, awarding funds for fourth year physician assistant students.

A graduate of Canisius College, he earned his master’s degree from the State University at Buffalo prior to obtaining his physician assistant degree at D’Youville.

The student speaker for the event is Megan L. Hendel, an athletic trainer who has worked with university and Buffalo athletes and at the professional level with the Buffalo Bills. A graduate of Daemen College, where she earned her undergraduate degree in Health Care and her Master’s Degree in Athletic Training, Hendel will graduate from D’Youville in May with her doctorate in Chiropractic Medicine and her MBA.
