Drs Dunford and McCrory-Churchill, nursing faculty, to be honored

Buffalo, New York – March 10, 2016 – Two members of the D’Youville nursing faculty will soon be recognized, one by the D'Youville College Alumni Association and one by Buffalo Business First.

Dr. Denise Dunford, associate professor and director of the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs, has been selected by the Alumni Association to receive the Anne Lum Award. The Award is named for Anne Lum, a 1924 D’Youville graduate whose volunteer service resulted in the establishment of the Loyalty Fund at the college.

It is given to a graduate who has achieved distinction through professional achievement, involvement in community affairs, or service to the college.

The award will be presented to Dr. Dunford at the annual Alumni Awards Dinner on May 25 at the Buffalo Yacht Club.

Dr. Shannon McCrory- Churchill, clinical assistant professor, has been selected as one of Business First’s Healthcare Champions and will be featured in their annual publication in April. The business newspaper makes its selections from a large number of nominations received over a three month period.

Dr. Dunford, graduated from Erie Community College with her A.A.S. in Nursing and is a Social Science honors graduate of the University at Buffalo, She earned her B.S.N at D’Youville and her M.S/FNP and D.N.S. at UB. In addition to her work at the college she is an Emergency Nurse Practitioner at Buffalo General Hospital where she also served as a staff, charge nurse and preceptor. A recipient of numerous awards she was a WNY Nurse of Distinction Nominee in 2012.

Dr. McCrory-Churchill, received an Associate Degree in Applied Science-Nursing from Erie Community College and earned her BSN and MSN from the University at Buffalo. She received her Doctor of Health Education from A.T. Still University in Missouri. Dr. McCrory-Churchill is also a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner for a private physician in Lockport and served in the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Unit in the Emergency Room at Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Buffalo.

“The achievements of our faculty members just adds to the pride I feel about being a member of the School of Nursing,” said Dr. Judith H. Lewis, Dean of the School of Nursing, in announcing the honors.
