Update on the Presidential Search
Message from John Amershadian, Chair of D’Youville’s Board of Trustees
Buffalo, New York – November 19, 2015 – As you know, as a result of Sister Denise's decision to retire at the end of this academic year, D'Youville College is undertaking a search for a new President. As Chairman of the Board of Trustees, I have two developments regarding the search of which I would like to inform you.
One of the initial steps in the process is the retention of a search firm to assist the Trustees and other involved members of the D'Youville community in finding the best possible candidate. After soliciting proposals from five national search firms and interviewing two of the firms that submitted proposals, we have engaged Diversified Search headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This firm has extensive experience in a wide variety of academic searches, including presidential searches for a number of small Catholic colleges. Its team leader, Dr. Kim Morrisson, has nearly twenty years of search experience and locally was the team leader for the successful presidential search by Trocaire College. Prior to that, Dr. Morrisson served in key executive and administrative positions at the University of Pennsylvania for twenty-five years, including Vice Provost.
While the Search Committee is still being formed, CJ Urlaub, Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees, and Melinda Disare, a long-time Trustee, have agreed to serve as Co-Chairs of the Committee. They will be joined by Kathy Best, Secretary of the Board, Andy Dorn, a former Chairman of the Board, and me. Eventually, the Search Committee will include additional members from the faculty, staff and other constituencies of the D'Youville community. We are beginning the process of reaching out to some of these constituencies now.
In the near future representatives from the search company will visit campus to gain better insight on a number of issues that will help shape the search. I ask that all of you who are approached to help in this regard do what you can to provide the most complete and thoughtful input possible. Doing so will help us achieve the best possible result. Sister Denise has led D’Youville and inspired our entire community for many years. We are all grateful for what she has accomplished and will remain ever mindful of our responsibility to preserve that legacy and to do what we can to help realize our future. We feel privileged to be part of this process.
We intend to provide further updates by this and other media throughout the search process so that the D'Youville community is kept informed of additional developments. We look forward to an inclusive process and a successful result.
Thank you for your attention and your participation. John Amershadian
Chair, Board of Trustees
