Mental Health and Substance Abuse Expert to Speak on Campus
Karl Shallowhorn of the Mental Health Association of Erie County and Compeer of Greater Buffalo will speak at 3:00pm today.
Buffalo, New York – October 06, 2014 – Karl Shallowhorn, Director of Community Advocacy at the Mental Health Association of Erie County and Compeer of Greater Buffalo, who lives with Bipolar Disorder and is in long-term recovery from addiction, will speak in Dr. Renee Cadzow’s Community Health class on Monday, October 6 at 3:00 p.m. in ALT 641. His topic will be “Mental Health and Substance Abuse.”
He is a credentialed alcoholism and substance abuse counselor and previously worked for Kaleida and Horizon Health Services. He is currently on the Board of Directors of the Mental Health Association of Erie County and authored a book “Working on Wellness: a Practical Guide to Mental Health.
Shallowhorn developed a 10-week college prep program for the WNY Children’s Psychiatric Center, speaks regularly in the area and has presented at several mental health conferences.
He is a regular contributor to the BP Magazine blog, which targets individuals living with Bipolar Disorder.
