DYC to Offer 2 New Advanced Certificate Programs in Education

Buffalo, New York – August 4, 2014 – The D’Youville College Center for Professional Studies will offer two new advanced certificate programs beginning this fall.

Advanced certificate programs provide students with a credential certifying that they have obtained education and training targeted to a specific area of expertise.

Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL)

The Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) Advanced Certificate is designed for certified teachers who have at least 12 credits in languages other than English.

The program will begin on August 23 and the 18-credit course can be completed in two semesters, including student teaching, according to Catherine Huber, director of the Center.

“Our TESOL program is registered with New York State and leads to a TESOL extension on the existing teaching certification.”

Classes meet on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Innovation Center, 640 Ellicott St. in Buffalo. Courses are offered at $500 per credit hour.

Educational Technology Specialist

DYC will also offer an Educational Technology Specialist Advanced Certificate for students who have completed an undergraduate degree and are interested in working in schools with the integration of technology. This graduate-level certificate program provides students 12 credits of coursework in educational technology and can be transferred to the master’s program in Curriculum and Instruction at D’Youville if desired.

The program does not require a teaching certificate for admission and it does not lead to a NYS certification.

The course begins August 26 and can be completed in two semesters. Classes will be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Tuition is $500 per credit hour.
