DYC Biology Professor Recognized as Healthcare 50 Honoree

Buffalo, New York – April 25, 2014 – Dr. Mary Eder Hurley, professor of biology in Math and Natural Sciences, was among 50 individuals featured in the recent annual edition of Health Care 50 for 2014 published by Business First of Buffalo.

Fifty individuals were chosen by the Business First panel out of hundreds. "They are compassionate practitioners, innovators, strategists, researchers caregivers and health professionals who deserve special recognition," according to the newspaper.

Dr. Hurley was cited for work both as an educator in the healthcare field and as a physician assistant.

A graduate of Canisius College, where she earned her degree in biology and honors for her performance in embryology, she received her master’s degree in anatomical sciences and PhD at the University at Buffalo. Dr. Hurley also earned a physician assistant degree at D’Youville.

She is a popular professor at D’Youville, noted for her unique teaching of gross anatomy and healthcare classes.

Dr. Hurley is a member of the American Association of Anatomists, a regular presenter at the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology and a co-founder of the Giovanni Mazzotti Anatomy Conference, which brings Italian medical students to study in a special program at D’Youville’s Gross Anatomy Laboratory every summer.

Her work alongside her associates with the Mazzotti Conference, has resulted in the Catholic Medical School of Rome funding an entire class to attend the D’Youville summer gross anatomy program.

The mother of two daughters and two sons, she enjoys time with her four grandchildren.
