Laps for Limbs Fundraiser to Help Children and Veterans
Buffalo, New York – April 9, 2013 – The D’Youville College Student Association, the Student Veterans Association, Catholic Health and St. Francis High School are sponsors for the 2nd Annual Laps for Limbs fundraiser.
The event is scheduled for Sunday, April 28 at St. Francis High School outdoor track, 4129 Lake Shore Road, Athol Springs, with sign up time from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Participants can also sign up at the Veterans Services Office on campus (KAB 217) or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Money is raised to help children through The Little Pebble Foundation and veterans with amputations through the Helping Empower Returning and Disabled Veterans (H.E.R.D.) organization.
Money is raised ‘per lap’ by participants who sign up sponsors. Last year $4600 was donated with 30 walkers and runners completing a total of 756 laps or 181 miles.
The fundraiser was the idea of Kristen Smith, a physical therapy major at D’Youville, who developed the concept and helped organize the first Laps for Limb event in 2012.
The Little Pebble Foundation uses the funds to send children with amputations to “Camp No Limits” where confidence and development of independence is fostered. H.E.R.D. ensures disabled and returning veterans are provided for when they return from active duty.
Donations may be made online to the D’Youville College Student Veterans Association or by check payable to DYC Student Veterans Association.
Free t-shirt for participants and music will be provided by The Hitmen.
