Student Association Elects President and Programming Committee Leaders
Buffalo, New York – March 28, 2013 – Marissa Benzin, a junior Occupational Therapy student at D'Youville College has been elected to serve as the president for the D'Youville College Student Association (SA).
In her role, the Lancaster native will meet regularly with Sister Denise, the college president, and Robert "Butch" Murphy, the vice president for student affairs. Additionally, the SA president gives an annual “state of the union” address to the college’s board of trustees.
Benzin has previously served within SA as a senator and as co-chairperson of the SA programming committee for two years. She has also served as an admissions ambassador, an orientation assistant, a resident assistant and a summer camp counselor for the Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP). Additionally, Benzin spent two years on the rowing team and was a member of the sophomore honor society, Lambda Sigma.
At the March 6 Honors Convocation, Marissa was awarded the St. Catherine’s of Alexandria Medal, which recognizes an outstanding junior student. She has also been recognized for her leadership potential by the occupational therapy program, and is a member of the OT honor society Pi Theta Epsilon.
Leadership for the Student Association Programming Committee for the 2013-14 year will be in the hands of Samantha and Rebecca Mercuri, who are sisters from Depew, NY.
The programming committee sponsors a wide variety of events and activities throughout the year ranging from Family & Friends Weekend to study-days food breaks. The committee plays an integral role in developing campus spirit and drawing students into the campus experience. The committee also works with all campus clubs and organizations providing recognition and funding for their activities and interests.
