D’Youville Nursing Dean Elected as Rep for Nursing Administrators
Buffalo, New York – August 29, 2012 – Dr. Judith H. Lewis, dean of the School of Nursing at D’Youville College, was elected as a Representative of the Chief Nurse Administrators on the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Board of Commissioners.
Ballots were distributed in July to accredited nursing education programs and post baccalaureate nurse residency programs resulting in the election of Dr. Lewis.
The Commission, based in Washington, D.C., is a national accrediting agency and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education. It is the only nursing education accrediting agency dedicated exclusively to the accreditation of bachelor’s and graduate degree nursing education programs.
It is governed by a Board of Commissioners and is the final authority on all policy and accreditation matters affecting CCNE. It adopts standards and procedures for the Commission accreditation process and has final authority over all accreditation decisions.
“I am honored and humbled by the trust from my colleagues to represent them on this most important Board,” Dr. Lewis said of her election.
A graduate of Ohio State University, Dr. Lewis earned her doctorate in education at the University of Cincinnati. Prior to joining D’Youville in 2009, she was associate dean and chair at the McAuley School of Nursing, and interim dean of the College of Health Professions at the University of Detroit Mercy.
