Clinical Preceptor Honored Graduating physician assistant students vote for top preceptor
Joe Askar, MD, a physician and clinical preceptor for D’Youville College Physician Assistant (PA) Department, has been awarded the 2011 Preceptor of the Year Award. He received the award at a dinner honoring him last month in Buffalo.
The Preceptor of the Year Award is presented annually by DYC’s PA department to a nominee who exemplifies the highest standards of excellence. Each year graduating students submit their vote for top preceptor. Askar was nominated unanimously by all of the students he worked with during the 2011-2012 academic year, including recent PA graduates Lee Anne Moretti, RPA-C and Jennifer Vincent, RPA-C, who attended the dinner for Dr. Askar.
Since 1998, Dr. Askar has served as a preceptor for 50 DYC PA students.
Chair of the PA Department Maureen Finney, Ed.D, RPA-C is proud to call him a D’Youville College clinical preceptor. “He is patient, kind and an excellent teacher,” said Finney. “His devotion to physician assistant student education is valued and appreciated by students and staff alike. We cannot express our gratitude strongly enough and are honored that he accepted this award from our students.”
