Buffalo, New York – June 4, 2014 – Lisa Rafalson, PhD, chair of the Health Services Administration Department at D’Youville College, was named to the Editorial Board for Undergraduate Studies of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) for a three-year term.
She was named to the 12-person Editorial Board by Christine Candio, RN, chair of the Board of Governors of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
The AUPHA, based in Arlington, Virginia, is a global network of colleges, universities, faculty, individuals and organizations dedicated to the improvement of healthcare delivery through excellence in healthcare management and policy education. It is the only nonprofit organization of its kind that works to improve the delivery of health services throughout the world by educating professional managers at the entry level.
Its membership includes baccalaureate, master’s, doctoral degree programs in health administration education in the U.S., Canada, and around the world who represent more than 400 educational institutions.
Rafalson will be responsible for encouraging submission of textbook manuscripts; suggest topics and curriculum developments, requiring textbooks, reviewing manuscripts and selecting appropriate reviewers for them and advise on reviews. She will also recommend acceptance or rejection of manuscripts for publication, consider critiques of manuscripts and determine the need for author revisions, according to the AUPHA.
“I am honored to be invited for this Board and hope that my participation will increase the visibility of the Health Service Administration Programs that D’Youville offers,” she said.
A cum laude and honors graduate of Loyola University in Chicago, Rafalson attended the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina, earned her master’s degree in epidemiology and her doctorate at the University at Buffalo.
She received the D’Youville “Faculty of the Year Award” in 2010 and named chair of the college’s HSA Department in 2011. In 2013, Rafalson presented her abstract concerning “Risk Factors for Prehypertension” at the International Epidemiology and Prevention Scientific Sessions in New Orleans.
Prior to joining the D’Youville faculty in 2009, Rafalson was a National Research Service Award Fellow in the Department of Family Medicine at the University at Buffalo (UB) School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. She also served as a postdoctoral fellow and research assistant professor in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine at UB.
