DYC Pharmacy to Host Seminar on Traditional Chinese Medicine
Buffalo, New York – May 15, 2014 – The D’Youville College School of Pharmacy is offering a ten-day seminar in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for the college community and for pharmacy students who will be travelling to China later this year.
The seminar begins on Monday, May 19, concludes Friday, May 30 and will be held in the D’Youville Academic Center, room 409. There will be presentations in the morning from 10:00 a.m. to noon and afternoons from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. No presentations are scheduled on May 26.
The seminar will be a unique opportunity to learn firsthand not only the history of this ancient medical treatment but also the philosophy, principle and prevention theory, pathology, chemical compounds, efficacies, how derived, traditional compounds, Chinese patent medicines, medicated diet of TCM, and more.
The seminar will be conducted by two of China’s leading experts in Chinese Medicine, Zhen Xie., associate professor of Chinese Medicine at Guangxi University and Chen Bin, director of the Office for Joint Programs, Faculty of International Education at the university.
Xie specializes in Chinese Material Medicine and specializes in research concerning the extractions and isolations of compounds from natural products, herbs and food. He also has served as an interpreter for physician’ diagnoses, and has explained functions of Chinese material medicine in clinics for students in various countries including the US, Europe, and Latin America.
Bin served as a German-Chinese interpreter for traditional Chinese Medicine in Germany and majored in acupuncture and foreign oriented traditional Chinese Medicine while a student at Guangxi University.
Traditional Chinese medicine literature dates back more than 2000 years and it’s believed the origins go back over 5000 years.
Today, TCM has gained in popularity and is used in all parts of the world.
