Former Mayor of Fort Erie Named to DYC Board of Trustees
Buffalo, New York – August 8, 2013 – Wayne H. Redekop, former Mayor of Fort Erie, was named Chair of the Buffalo based D’Youville College Board of Trustees for a two-year term. He has served on the College Board, the governing body of the institution, since 2008. Redekop is a partner in the law firm of Jones, Jamieson & Redekop with offices in Ridgeway.
He was Mayor from 1997 to 2006 and was in office for a number of major issues including acting as the lead negotiator for 14 other municipalities during prolonged and tenuous negotiations with the Ontario government over revenue given to municipalities from slot facilities.
Redekop was involved in a town-wide colored water issue and lawsuit and developed a plan for replacing water pipes in a phased approach.
He helped develop a community health and wellness program; assisted in the acquisition of waterfront property in Fort Erie as it became available. This included the Point Abino lighthouse and keeper’s dwelling and the Rebstock property at Bay Beach.
Active in the local community, he served as director of Fort Erie Meals on Wheels for 13 years and held the same position at the Fort Erie Economic Development Corporation from 1992 to 2006. He is currently a director of the Niagara Land Trust and the Fort Erie Multicultural Centre.
The former Mayor has served as president of the Fort Erie Bar Association and the Welland County Bar Association.
