Outstanding Students Recognized at Honors Convocation
Buffalo, New York – March 11, 2013 – An overflow crowd of more than 800 people were on hand at Kleinhans Music Hall for D'Youville's 54th annual Honors Convocation on March 6.
They heard Andrew W. Dorn, Jr., chair of the D'Youville College Board of Trustees, thank the students for their extensive community service.
"Last year D'Youville students dedicated over 600 hours to community service," he said. Dorn highlighted the many beneficiaries of the student's efforts including organizations that feed the hungry, rehabilitate homes, help the homeless, care for senior citizens and children, provide ministries and local non-profit agencies.
"This is truly impressive and on behalf of our community, I thank you for your tremendous commitment to community service. You have made a huge impact on the quality of life in our community."
Dorn told the students, their families, friends, and spouses that "the more you give of your time, talent and treasure the better your life will be."
He is the president of a local private investment company and the founder and former CEO of the Greater Buffalo Savings Bank and Jamestown Saving Bank.
Students were honored for their academic achievement highlighted by the presentation of the prestigious D'Youville Medal to Kaitlynn Trzaska and the Grey Nun of the Sacred Heart Medal to Takesha Leonard.
The Saint Catherine of Alexandria Medal was awarded to Marissa Benzin and the Lee Conroy Higgins Award went to Robert Kubiak II.
