Happy New Year everyone!
As we are safely celebrating the intro of 2021, please be advised of two important updates to quarantine requirements that have recently changed:
For international student travelers:
- The Department of Health clarified that the state’s updated travel guidelines which allow for travelers to test out of mandatory quarantine as early as four days after their arrival in New York also apply to travelers from any country designated as Level 2 or higher by the CDC, which includes Canada (designated Level 4). All Canadian students returning to campus are permitted to test out of quarantine if they obtain a test three days before arriving to New York, quarantine upon their arrival, and obtain a second test on day 4 of their quarantine. Individuals designated as essential employees traveling from Canada continue to be exempt from these precautionary travel quarantines.
For precautionary quarantine:
- The Department of Health updated their quarantine guidance for individuals exposed
to COVID-19 and travelers to match the updated CDC guidance — all individuals can now discontinue their quarantine after 10 days if no symptoms
have been reported. All individuals must also continue to monitor symptoms daily for 14 days and follow
all other guidance including face coverings, hand washing, and social distancing.
