Campus Safety

D'Youville's Campus Safety Department is always available and staffed by officers who are highly trained and knowledgeable of the D'Youville campus and neighborhood.

D'Youville's Campus Safety Dispatch is located on the first floor of the D'Youville Academic Center (DAC).

The dispatch center is the link between Campus Safety, external emergency assistance agencies, the campus community, and the general public.

Campus safety officers patrol the entire D'Youville campus at all times, including buildings, parking lots, and perimeter streets. Officers also monitor digital video camera feeds that cover the entire campus, and are outfitted with law enforcement-caliber radios for effective communication.

Campus Safety encourages anyone who observes a crime or suspicious activity or needs to report an emergency to contact them. Call 716-829-7777 for emergencies or the general information line at 716-829-7550 for non-emergencies.

SAFETY ESCORT

D'Youville Campus Safety offers all students, faculty, staff and visitors the ability to receive a safety escort 24 hours a day. The escort service area includes the entire D'Youville campus (buildings and parking lots) and immediate surrounding vicinity.

The security escorts can be requested by calling the main safety dispatch line.

Our Trained, Professional Department

Campus Safety at D’Youville is a specialized, hybrid non-sworn law enforcement/security operation that is run in partnership with Allied Universal Services. The Director of Campus Safety who oversees a fully operational command structure of officers, sergeants, lieutenants, and a captain. The Director of Campus Safety, as chief of the department, reports directly to the Chief of Staff.

The Dispatch Center

The Dispatch Center is staffed by trained communication officers at all times. These specially-trained officers are a key component of the response program. Their duties include fielding all incoming calls (internal and external), dispatching Officers for standard service needs and emergency situations, monitoring security alarms, door alarms, fire safety systems and video surveillance, and fielding calls from the campus red emergency phones (indoor system) and blue emergency call-boxes (outdoor system.) Campus Safety's goal is to provide outstanding service and support to each issue that arises.

Community Relations

The D'Youville Campus Safety Department has established strong working relationships with local law enforcement and emergency responders, including the Buffalo police and fire departments. In addition to these key partners, we also maintain an active and positive communications with our neighbors through participation in the Community & Block Club Associations and the Buffalo Police Chief’s Community Outreach monthly meetings.

Effective partnerships enable the D'Youville's Campus Safety team to keep our campus safe and secure.

Officer Training

All officers on staff receive continual training on security protocols and procedures. Training is provided through a number of different sources, including US Security (private security company), the NYS Division of Criminal Justice and other Law Enforcement agencies in the Western New York area.

On Our Campus and in Our Community

Officers patrol by foot patrol, trained bike patrol units, and a vehicle patrol unit for maximum mobility and coverage around campus and to ensure a quick response to all buildings, at all times.
