D'Youville Duo Featured on "Officially Yours" Tonight

Buffalo, NY (2/2/12)-Spartan Athletics will be front and center tonight on The Breeze AM 1230 and FM 102.9. The "Officially Yours" radio program hosted by Peter Calieri takes to the air tonight (Feb. 2) at 7:00 p.m. and the first guest is D'Youville Director of Athletics Brian Cavanaugh.

Then at 7:30 p.m. D'Youville men's basketball Head coach Earl Schunk will talk about the Spartan's jump to prominence in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.

Men's Volleyball Captures Conference Opener

Hamburg, NY (2/1/12)-D'Youville captured their United Volleyball Conference opener with a four-set win at Hilbert College. The Spartans took the first two sets 25-14 and 25-13, dropped the third 25-23, and closed the match with a 25-20 win.

Rob Dykeman (Perrineville, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) had a match high 12 kills followed by Todd Potter (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) with 10 kills. Chris Krueger (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) added eight kills and a match-high six blocks.

The next match for D'Youville (2-3, 1-0 UVC) is February 8 at home versus Penn State Behrend. Start time is 7:00 p.m.

Basketball Squads Defeated at Behrend

Erie, PA (2/1/12)-The D'Youville men's basketball team saw their two-game winning streak come to an end after Wednesday's 72-68 loss at Penn State Behrend.

Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland) scored 20 points and Jeff Curry (Buffalo, NY/Lafayette) chipped in 13 for D'Youville (8-12, 8-5 AMCC)

The Spartans led by one at halftime, then rallied from a 12-point second-half hole to made it a one-point game with thirty-eight seconds left.

In the women's game, Hannah Norton (Wyoming, NY/Pavilion) scored a team-high 12 points and Sara Wozniak (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) was next with eight points in the Spartan's loss at Penn State Behrend.

Both teams return to action February 4th at home versus La Roche College and it will a Coaches vs. Cancer event. Coaches from both teams will wear sneakers as part of a national effort by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) to raise funds for and awareness of cancer.

During the afternoon event there will be a 50-50 drawing with proceeds going toward the American Cancer Society. There will also be t-shirt and other giveaways sponsored by the D’Youville College Athletics Committee.

The event tips-off at 1:00 p.m. in D’Youville’s College Center Gym with the men’s game followed by the women’s contest at 3:00 p.m.

 

Men’s Basketball Continues to Shine in Conference Play

Altoona, PA (1/28/12)-The D’Youville College men’s basketball team moved to 8-4 in AMCC play, 8-11 overall, with a 91-75 win at Penn State Altoona. D’Youville has won two-straight. The Spartans never trailed in the game.

Patrick Coyle (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) scored 20 points, Jeff Curry (Buffalo, NY/Lafayette) added 18 points, and AMCC Player of the Year candidate Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland) went for 16 points and five rebounds.

The next game for D’Youville is February 1 at Penn State Behrend.

Women’s Basketball Edged at Altoona

Altoona, PA (1/28/12)-A three-pointer as time expired rattled in and out leaving the D’Youville women’s basketball team on the short side of a 74-72 decision at Penn State Altoona.

Hannah Norton (Wyoming, NY/Pavilion) had a game-high 29 points to go with 12 rebounds. Bridget Andrews (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart) added 19 points and a game-high six assists and Sara Wozniak (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) chipped in 10 points for D’Youville (3-16, 2-10 AMCC).

Men’s Volleyball Wins Final Match at Nazareth Invite

Pittsford, NY (1/28/12)-On day two of the Nazareth College Invitational, D’Youville split their two matches.

The Spartans opened the day with a four-set loss to Elmira College. Set scores (Elmira first; 25-23, 19-25, 25-23, 25-16).

D’Youville won their final match with a come from behind effort over Southern Vermont. Set scores (D’Youville first; 21-25, 25-18, 28-30, 25-18, 15-9). Ben Bowler (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) a match-high 45 assists and Chris Krueger (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) had 12 kills and five blocks for D’Youville (1-3).

The next game for D’Youville is Feb 1 at Hilbert College.

Men's Volleyball Has Final Dress Rehearsal

Buffalo, NY (1/24/12)-The good news is it doesn't count. The D'Youville men's volleyball team opened 2012 with a five loss in an exhibition match against Niagara College (Ontario).

D'Youville won the first two sets 25-22 and 25-19, dropped the next two 19-25 and 23-25, and visiting Niagara won the deciding set 15-12.

D'Youville will open the regular season at the Nazareth Invitational this Friday (Jan. 27) against two nationally ranked teams: #5 Juniata College and #9 MIT.

Johnson Nets 1,000th Career Point in Spartan’s Record Breaking Win

Buffalo, NY (1/21/12)-The D’Youville men’s basketball set a home-court single-game scoring record in Saturday’s 100-80 win over visiting Mt. Aloysius. The win marked the first time in school history D’Youville scored 100 points at home.

With his first basket 1:16 in the game, Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland) became the sixth men’s player at D’Youville College to record 1,000 career points. Johnson finished the game with 21 points and moved into fifth-place on the school’s men’s basketball scoring list with 1,019 points. Johnson also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

Also having a big day for the Spartans was a pair of senior guards. Greg Osika (Depew, NY/Depew) dropped in a game-high 24 points to go with a career-high nine steals and Kenny Farley (Buffalo, NY/Performing Arts) added 20 points.

D’Youville trailed at the break 43-42 but was a blistering 24 of 38 from the floor (63.2%). 28 of the team’s 58 second-half points were off fast breaks.

The win snapped the Spartan’s three-game losing streak and D’Youville improves to 7-11 overall, 7-4 in the AMCC. With a month to go in the season the Spartans have surpassed their win total from the 2010-11 campaign.

Spartan’s Hax Records First Double-Double in Home Loss

Buffalo, NY (1/21/12)-Freshman Torie Hax (Pulaski, NY/Pulaski) notched her first career double-double with a game-high 18 points and 13 rebounds but visiting Mt. Aloysius defeated D’Youville 82-61. Hax also dished a game-high five assists.

Bridget Andrews (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart) added 10 points, all coming in the second-half, and Hannah Norton (Wyoming, NY/Pavilion) scored eight for D’Youville (3-15, 2-9 AMCC).

The nex game for D’Youville is January 28 at Penn State Altoona.

Spartan Squads Downed at Pitt-Bradford

Bradford, PA (1/19/12)-The D'Youville men's basketball team lost their second-straight game with a 92-84 loss at Pitt-Bradford.

Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland) had a game-high 34 points for D'Youville (6-11, 6-4 AMCC). Johnson is now two points shy of 1,000 points for his three-year D'Youville career. Greg Osika (Depew, NY/Depew) added 13 points and Patrick Coyle (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) had 16 points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks.

Hannah Norton (Wyoming, NY/Pavilion) scored 17 points and Shannon Dougherty (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) added 12 points and 14 rebounds in the women's 73-56 loss at Pitt-Bradford

The Spartans return to action Saturday (Jan. 21) when they play Mount Aloysius College at home. Start time in the College Center Gym for the men's game is at 1:00 p.m. with the women's contest to follow at 3:00 p.m.

Three in Double-Figures in Spartan's Loss

Buffalo, NY (1/16/12)-Hannah Norton (Wyoming, NY/Pavilion) had a game-high 16 points, Bridget Andrews (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart) added 14 points, and Shannon Dougherty (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) scored 12 points in the Spartan's 72-53 loss to Medaille.

The next game for D'Youville is January 19 at Pitt-Bradford.

Men's Basketball Edged in Cross-Town Battle

Buffalo, NY (1/16/12)-Playing for a share of the lead in the conference standings the D'Youville College men's basketball team came up a bit short in their bid to knock off local rival Medaille College. The visiting Mavericks came away with the 60-54 win.

Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland) and Greg Osika (Depew, NY/Depew) scored 13 points apiece, Jeff Curry (Buffalo, NY/Lafayette) added 10 points, and Patrick Coyle (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) had 10 rebounds and eight blocked shots.

The next game for D'Youville is January 19 at Pitt-Bradford.

Comeback Falls Short for Lady Spartans

Buffalo, NY (1/14/12) - The D’Youville women’s basketball team fell to conference opponent Pitt-Greensburg 62-74. The Spartan women were led by Shannon Dougherty (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) who had eleven points and three rebounds. The Spartans had four players score in double digits.

Bridget Andrews (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) had ten points and three assists. Hannah Norton (Wyoming, NY/Pavilion) had ten points and a team-high nine rebounds, four blocks and three steals. Fellow senior Sarah Wozniak (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) had ten points, three steals, and four rebounds.

The Spartans (3-12, 2-6) return to action Monday at the College Center Gymnasium against cross-town conference rival Medaille College at 3 p.m.

Spartans Bounce Back Big Against Bobcats

Buffalo, NY (1/14/12) - The Spartan men bounced back in a big way after Wednesday night’s loss, scoring a huge conference victory against Pitt-Greensburg, beating the Bobcats 96-63. The Spartans never trailed in the game. D’Youville had six players in double digit scoring, including junior Erik Prophet (Buffalo, NY/City Honors), who had a career high 13 points in the win and five rebounds.

Leading scoring for the Spartans was freshman Jeff Curry (Buffalo, NY/Lafayette) with 19 points. Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland) had 14 points and five assists. Kenny Farley (Buffalo, NY/Performing Arts) also had 14 points for the Spartans. Patrick Coyle (North Chili, NY/Bishop Kearney) had 12 points and a team-high 14 rebounds and six blocks. Greg Osika (Depew, NY/Depew) had ten points and a team high three steals.

The Spartans (6-9, 6-2) return to action on Monday at the College Center Gymnasium against local conference foe Medaille College. The game starts at 1 p.m.

Spartan Women Have Three in Double Digits in Loss

Buffalo, NY (1/11/12) – The Spartan women trailed most of the game, but a late comeback proved to be not enough to overcome the Hilbert Hawks, losing 59-68. Torie Hax (Pulaski, NY/Pulaski) led the Spartans in scoring with 18 points. Hax also had 10 rebounds and five assists.

Bridget Andrews (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) had 14 points and six steals in the loss. Sara Wozniak (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) had 12 points and seven rebounds. Hannah Norton (Wyoming, NY/Pavillion) had six points and 11 rebounds for the Spartans.

The Spartans (3-13, 2-5) return to action Saturday against Pitt-Greensburg at 4 p.m

Spartans Downed By Hawks

Buffalo, NY (1/11/12) – Despite leading most of the game, the Spartans men’s basketball team lost a hard-fought conference game to the Hilbert Hawks 86-84. The Spartans were leading by 12 points with ten minutes to go in the game, but some quick points and good free throw shooting by the Hawks gave them the advantage when the buzzer sounded. Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland) had a game-high 31 points for the Spartans.

Patrick Coyle (North Chili, NY/Bishop Kearney) had 17 points, a game-high twelve rebounds and six blocks for the Spartan men. Greg Osika (Depew, NY/Depew) had 13 points and three steals in the loss. Jake Maryniewski (Depew, Depew) had five assists, three points and two steals.

The Spartans (5-9, 5-2) return to action this Saturday at home against Pitt-Greensburg at 2 p.m. in the College Center Gymnasium.

Basketball to Host Hilbert Tonight; Johnson Climbs to Eighth in Scoring

Buffalo, NY (1/11/12)-D'Youville will host local rival Hilbert College in an AMCC basketball doubleheader tonight in the College Center Gym.

The first-place Spartan men's team gets the night underway at 6:00 p.m. D'Youville (5-1 AMCC, 5-8) is coming off last weekend's 2-0 road trip. Last Saturday (Jan. 7) the Spartans knocked off defending conference champion La Roche by nine points.

The following day (Jan. 8) at Franciscan Spartan guard Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland) set a new school single-game scoring record with 42 points in the Spartan's 17-point win.

Johnson was named AMCC Player of the Week for the second time this season and is now eighth nationally among NCAA Division III players in scoring at 24.2 points per game.

The D'Youville women's team takes on Hilbert at 8:00 p.m. and the Spartans (2-4 AMCC, 3-10) are coming off a three-point win last Sunday at Franciscan. Hannah Norton (Wyoming, NY/Pavilion) recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 25 points and 12 rebounds. D'Youville has won the last nine meetings against their local rival.

AMCC Names Raysean Johnson Player of the Week

Buffalo, NY (1/9/12)-D’Youville College men’s basketball player Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland) was named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player of the Week after leading the Spartans to pair of road conference wins and breaking the school’s single-game scoring record in the process.

It is the second time this season Johnson has been tabbed the AMCC Player of the Week (Nov. 21, 2011) and third time in his career (Jan. 20, 2010).

In the Spartan’s 100-83 win January 8 at Franciscan University, Johnson scored 42 points breaking the school’s single-game record previously set in the 1978-79 season by Greg Wells (41 points versus Roberts Wesleyan Feb. 8., 1979). Johnson’s record setting stat line was 15-22 from the floor, 4-7 from behind the three-point line, and 8-11 from the foul line.

January 7 at (then) league leader and defending AMCC champion La Roche College, Johnson dropped in a game-high 27 leading D’Youville to a 92-83 win. Johnson opened the week with a game-high 22 points January 2 at SUNY Geneseo and an 18-point, eight-rebound effort January 4 versus Penn State Behrend.

In four games played last week, the senior guard averaged 27.5 points and five rebounds per contest and was the game-high scorer in three of the Spartan’s four games last week. Johnson scored a game-high. D’Youville went 2-2 last week, 2-0 in AMCC play.

Heading into last weekend’s two away games, Johnson was 11th nationally among NCAA Division III players with a 22.5 point per game average. That mark has now risen to a 24.2 per game clip and should land Johnson in the in top-ten nationally when Division III updates their statistical leaders later this week.

The next home game for D'Youville is this Wednesday (Jan. 11) versus local rival Hilbert College. Start time in the College Center Gym is 6:00 p.m.

Johnson Goes for 42, Sets School Single-Game Record, D'Youville Goes to 5-1 in Conference Play

Steubenville, OH (1/8/11)-D'Youville won their second straight-game in as many days with a 100-86 win at Franciscan University. The Spartans are now 5-1 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, 5-8 overall.

Senior guard Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland) set a new school single-game scoring record with 42 points, breaking the old record of 41 set by Greg Wells in 1979. Johnson was 15-22 from the floor, 4-7 from behind the three-point point arc, and 8-11 from the foul line.

Patrick Coyle (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) added 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Spartans.

The next game for D'Youville is January 11 at home versus Hilbert College. Start time in the College Center Gym is 6 p.m.

Four in Double-Figures in Spartan's Road Win

Steubenville, OH (1/8/11)-The D'Youville women's basketball team ended their three-game losing streak with a 70-67 win at Franciscan University. The Spartans improve to 3-10 overall, 2-4 in the AMCC.

Hannah Norton (Wyoming, NY/Pavilion)scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Shannon Dougherty (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West)came off the bench to score 15 points, Bridget Andrews (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart)added 14 points, and Sara Wozniak (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster)10 points for D'Youville.

D'Youville led by as many as 14 in the second-half but Franciscan chipped away and missed a potential game-tying three-pointer with three seconds left.

The next game for D'Youville is January 11 at home versus Hilbert College. Start time in the College Center Gym is 8 p.m.

Men's Basketball Scores Huge Road Win at Conference Leader; Women's Team Defeated

Buffalo, NY (1/7/11)-The D'Youville men's basketball team ended their three-game losing streak at the expense of the defending AMCC champion and current conference leader La Roche College. The Spartans led nearly the entire game on the Redhawk's home floor and won 92-83.

Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland) totaled a game-high 27 points, Jeff Curry (Buffalo, NY/Lafayette) added 17 points, Greg Osika (Depew, NY/Depew) 14 points, and Patrick Coyle (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) 10 points, nine rebounds, and seven blocked shots for D'Youville (4-8, 4-1 AMCC).

La Roche (10-3, 5-1 AMCC) took the lead 2-0 thirty-three seconds into the game. They held that lead for seven seconds. D'Youville got a three from Curry and never trailed after that.

Bridget Andrews (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart) scored a team-high eight points and Kellie Burns (Rochester, NY/Greece Odyssey) grabbed nine rebounds in the Spartan's loss at La Roche.

Both D'Youville teams play tomorrow at Pitt-Greensburg. The men's game tips off at 1 p.m. with the women's game to follow at 3 p.m.

Women's Basketball Opens New Year with Solid Effort

Buffalo, NY (1/4/11)-It doesn't reflect in the final score but the D’Youville women’s basketball team hung tough for 35 minutes against second-place Penn State Behrend. The visitors took home a 83-64 over the Spartans.

The Spartans trailed by 3 at the break and took a lead in the first three minutes of the second-half. D'Youville shot 46.3% from the floor against a team that was holding opponents to just 32% in their first 10 games.

Kaitlyn Roland (Victor, NY/Victor) had a team-high 16 points followed by Hannah Norton (Wyoming, NY/Pavilion) with 13 points and Bridget Andrews (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart) with 11 points.

D’Youville (2-9, 1-3 AMCC) will play at La Roche College this Saturday (Jan. 7).

Spartans Defeated for First Time in Conference Play

Buffalo, NY (1/4/12)-D’Youville saw their three-game conference win streak end tonight. Penn State Behrend came to the College Center Gym and defeated the Spartans 80-52.

Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland) scored 18 points, Greg Osika (Depew, NY/Depew) added 16 points, and Patrick Coyle (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) had six points and a game-high 11 rebounds for D’Youville (3-8, 3-1 AMCC).

The next game for D’Youville is Saturday (Jan. 7) at La Roche College.

Men's Basketball Opens 2012 on the Road

Geneseo, NY (1/2/11)-The 2012 portion of the schedule began for men's basketball and the Spartans dropped a 90-81 decision at SUNY Geneseo. Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland) scored a game-high 22 points and Kenny Farley (Buffalo, NY/Performing Arts) added 16 for the Spartans.

D'Youville returns to AMCC play January 4 at home versus Penn State Behrend. Start time is 6:00 p.m. The Spartans currently sit atop the AMCC with a 3-0 league record.

Dougherty and Norton Score Big for Spartans

Buffalo, NY (12/31/11)-In this afternoon's non-conference game versus RIT, Shannon Dougherty (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) scored 20 points and teammate Hannah Norton (Wyoming, NY/Pavilion) added 19 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. The Spartans were defeated by the visiting Tigers 77-56.

The next game for D'Youville is January 4 at home versus Penn State Behrend. Start time in the College Cemter Gym is 8 p.m.

Second-Half Surge by RIT Sinks Spartans

Buffalo, NY (12/31/11)-In today's men's basketball non-conference matinee, host D'Youville led by one at the break but visiting RIT opened the second frame with an 8-0 run and never looked back. Final score: RIT 87 - D'Youville 73.

Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland) scored a game-high 22 for D'Youville followed by Patrick Coyle (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) with 19 points and nine rebounds.

The next game for D'Youville is January 2 at SUNY Geneseo.

Lady Spartans Dress Six in Conference Victory

Buffalo, NY (12-10-11) – The Lady Spartans basketball team dressed only six players as they took their first conference win of the season, beating Penn State Altoona 65-64. Kaitlyn Roland (Victor, NY/Victor) led the Spartans in scoring with 19 points. Roland added six rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.

Hannah Norton (Wyoming, NY/Pavilion) scored 17 points, and had a game-high 14 rebounds. Norton also had a team high four steals. Bridget Andrews (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) had 10 points and four assists for the Lady Spartans (2-7, 1-2).

The Spartans return to action December 31 at 3 p.m. in the D’Youville College Center Gymnasium, taking on the R.I.T. Tigers.

Three Spartans Put Up Double-Digits in Win

Buffalo, NY (12/10/11) - Three Spartans put up double digit points in a physical 95-86 men's basketball win over AMCC opponent Penn State Altoona. The Spartans were led by Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland), who put up a home court career-high 32 points. Johnson added eight rebounds and two steals.

Jeff Curry (Buffalo, NY/Lafayette) scored a season-high 24 points, and grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds. Curry also had two steals. Greg Osika (Depew, NY/Depew) had 21 points, three assists, two rebounds, and a steal in the Spartans (3-5, 3-0) win.

The Spartans will be back in action on December 31 at 1 p.m. in the College Center Gymnasium, where they will meet the R.I.T. Tigers.

Academic Performance by Men's Soccer Earns Award

Buffalo, NY (12/8/11)-In 2011 the D'Youville College men's soccer program recorded their best record in 11 years. The program was also recognized for the first time by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as a 2011 Men's College Team Academic Award recipient.

Eligibility for the award was a team grade-point average of 3.0 or better. The Spartans, under the direction of Head coach Matt McCormick, have a 3.03 team grade-point average.

D'Youville, along with Niagara University, were the only local collegiate men's programs honored by the NSCAA for their academic performance.

Men's Basketball Moves to 2-0 in Conference Play; Four in Double-Figures in Women's Game

Cresson, PA (12/3/11)-D'Youville had five players in double-figures led by Greg Osika (Depew, NY/Depew) with 21 points and the Spartans are now 2-0 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference after their 103-98 win at Mount Aloysius.

Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland) added 18 points, Jeff Curry (Buffalo, NY/Amherst) 16 points, Patrick Coyle (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney) 14 points, seven rebounds, and a game-high four blocked shots, and Josh Domros (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech) with 12 points.

Kaitlyn Roland (Victor, NY/Victor) had a team-high 18 points and was one of four Spartans to finish in double-figures in the team's 92-67 loss at Mount Aloysius.

Second-Half Spartan Rally Falls Short in Conference Opener

Buffalo, NY (11/30/11)-Women's basketball trailed by 21 in the second-half and made it a two possesion game trailing by six with 2:42 left but could get any closer and D'Youville was defeated in the first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game of the season 87-75 by visiting Pitt-Bradford.

Kaitlyn Roland (Victor, NY/Victor) was one of four Spartans in double-figures with a game-high 26 points. Hannah Norton (Wyoming, NY/Pavilion) added 18 points and 11 rebounds, Bridget Andrews (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) with 15 points, and Jordyn Schenk (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) with 10 points for D'Youville.

The Spartans next game is December 3 at Mount Aloysius.

Spartans, Schunk Score First Victory of the Season

Buffalo, NY (11/30/11) – The Spartans men’s basketball team won their first conference game of the year, beating Pitt-Bradford 68-57. It was the Spartans first win of the season and head coach Earl Schunk’s first career win with the Spartans. The Spartans were led by Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland), who had 22 points in the contest.

Greg Osika (Depew, NY/Depew) had 13 points and a game-high five steals. Jake Maryniewski (Depew, NY/Depew) had a game-high six assists and added two steals and three rebounds.

Prior to the start of the game, junior Patrick Coyle (North Chili, NY/Bishop Kearney) was honored with a plaque commemorating last season when he led the nation in blocked shots. Coyle scored five points and had a team-high 12 rebounds and seven blocks in the contest.

The Spartans (1-4, 1-0) return to action Saturday at Mt. Aloysius, another AMCC opponent. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Women's Basketball Results at the Gallaudet Tournament on Facebook

The results of tonight's first-round game of the Gallaudet University Holiday Tournament between Lehman College and D'Youville College will posted on the Spartan's Facebook page. Start time in Washington DC is 8:00 p.m.

Spartans Defeated at Home by Hobart

Buffalo, NY (11/26/11)-In the first-ever meeting between the schools, Hobart defeated D'Youville 86-63 in a non-conference men's basketball game played in the College Center Gym.

Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland) scored a game-high 14 points followed by Greg Osika (Depew, NY/Depew) and Deon Williams (Detroit, MI/Mumford) with 13 points apiece. Osika also had a team-high eight rebounds and Jake Maryniewski (Depew, NY/Depew) led all players with five assists.

The next game is the first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contest of the season November 30 at home versus Pitt-Bradford. Start time in the College Center Gym is 6:00 p.m.

Women's Basketball Has Three in Double-Figures

Buffalo, NY (11/22/11)-In the women's basketball home opener, Fredonia State defeated D'Youville 78-57.

Hannah Norton (Wyoming, NY/Pavilion) led D’Youville with 22 points and nine rebounds, followed by Shannon Dougherty (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) with 15 points, and Kaitlyn Roland (Victor, NY/Victor) with 10 points.

The next game for D’Youville is November 26th in the first round of the Gallaudet Holiday Tournament in Washington DC.

Spartan's Home Opener Spoiled by Blue Devils

Buffalo, NY (11/22/11) – Three Spartans put up double digit points in an 89-72 loss to the Fredonia State Blue Devils. The Spartans were led by Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland), who had 23 points in the contest. Johnson added a team high eight rebounds.

Deon Williams (Detroit, MI/Mumford) put up 14 points and grabbed three rebounds in the Spartans loss. Jeff Curry (Buffalo, NY/Lafayette) had 11 points and two defensive rebounds in the game. Greg Osika (Depew, NY/Depew) had a team high seven steals, and added six points and five rebounds.

The Spartans (0-4) return to action Saturday at the D’Youville College Center gymnasium, taking on Hobart at 4 p.m

Raysean Johnson Named AMCC Player of the Week

Buffalo, NY (11/21/11)-Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland) had a big first week of play for the D'Youville College men's basketball team and named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player of the Week.

November 15th Johnson opened the 2011-12 season with a game-high 25 points at Buffalo State.

November 18th in the first-round of the Calvin College Tip-Off Tournament, Johnson scored a career-high 36 points on 13-28 shooting from the floor and grabbed five rebounds in the Spartan's 108-101 loss to Willamette College (OR). The 36-point effort was also the most ever scored by a player at Calvin College's Van Noord Arena and Johnson was named to the All-Tournament Team.

In three games played the senior guard averaged 24.7 points and five rebounds per game.

It is the second career AMCC Player of the Week award for Johnson (Jan. 25, 2010).

D'Youville (0-3) will play Fredonia State at home Tuesday (Nov. 22). Start time for the non-conference contest is 6:00 p.m.

Kaitlyn Roland Named AMCC Player of the Week

Buffalo, NY (11/21/11)-After leading the D'Youville College women's basketball team to their first win of the season and earning a spot on the Oswego State/Max Ziel All-Tournament team, Kaitlyn Roland (Victor, NY/Victor) was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player of the Week.

It is the first career weekly conference honor for the senior guard.

November 19th Roland scored a career-high 31 points in the Spartan's 84-58 win over Wells College in the consolation game of the Oswego State/Max Ziel Tournament. Roland made 14 of 26 shots from the floor, two of six from behind the arc, to go with six rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

In the three games played, Roland averaged 18 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals for D'Youville (1-2).

The next game for the Spartans is November 22 at home versus Fredonia State. Start time for the non-conference contest is 8:00 p.m.

Men's Basketball Defeated in Tournament Consolation Game

Grand Rapids, MI (11/19/11)Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland) lead the Spartans with 13 points, two steals and two rebounds in a 100-67 loss to Grace Bible College in the consolation game of the Calvin Tip-Off Tournament. Johnson also had an assist in the loss.

Jeff Curry (Buffalo, NY/Lafayette) put up 12 points in the contest and had two steals for the Spartans (0-3). Greg Osika (Depew, NY/Depew) had eight points, three steals and two assists. Julian Reed (Cheektowaga, NY/Union-Endicott) had seven points in the contest and a team high three blocks.

The Spartans return to action Tuesday at the D’Youville College Center gymnasium, taking on the Fredonia State Blue Devils at 6 p.m.

Roland Scores Career High in Lady Spartans' Victory

Oswego, NY (11/19/11)Kaitlyn Roland (Victor, NY/Victor) scored a career and game high 31 points in the Lady Spartans’ 84-58 victory over Wells College in the Oswego State/Max Ziel Tournament consolation game. Roland also tied for a team high six rebounds and was one of three Spartans to finish with double digit points in the contest.

Hannah Norton (Wyoming, NY/Pavilion) scored 20 points and had a team high 14 rebounds in the contest. Five Spartans Finish in Double-Figures in Tournament Defeat

Oswego, NY (11/18/11)-Jordyn Schenk (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) scored a game-high 17 points and was one of five D'Youville College women's basketball players to finish in double figures in the Spartan's 86-73 loss to Mount St. Vincent in the first-round game of the Oswego State/Max Ziel Tournament.

Spartans Hang a High Number in Defeat

Buffalo, NY (11/15/11)-It was a high scoring season opening game for the D'Youville College men's basketball team. The Spartans scored 93 points in their first contest of the 2011-12 season but yielded 141 and were defeated at Buffalo State.

Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland) scored a game-high 25 points, followed by Jeff Curry (Buffalo, NY/Lafayette) with 19 points, and Kevin Ford (Buffalo, NY/Amherst) added 16 points off the bench for D'Youville.

The next game for D'Youville is Friday (November 18) versus Willamette College in the first-round of the Calvin College (MI) Tip-Off Tournament. Start time is 5:30 p.m.

Women's Basketball Defeated in Season Opener

Buffalo, NY (11/15/11)-Kaitlyn Roland (Victor, NY/Victor) scored a team-high 12 points in the Spartan's 70-41 season opening loss at Buffalo State. Megan McGrath (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) added seven points and Bridget Andrews (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) six points for D'Youville.

The Spartans next play Friday (Nov. 18) versus Mount St. Vincent in the opening round game of the Oswego State/Max Ziel Tournament. Start time is 2:00 p.m.

Freshman Fusco Named to X-Country All-Conference Squad

Buffalo, NY (11/14/11)-D'Youville College women's cross-country runner Maria Fusco (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) was named to the AMCC All-Conference Team.

The first-year runner was the Spartan’s top performer at the October 29th AMCC Championship with a 13th place effort, recorded a win at the October 1st Hilbert College/Meghan Memorial, and finished eighth out of 126 at the October 15 CCOC Meet.

Spartan Basketball Squads Set to Tip-Off Season November 15

Buffalo, NY (11/14/11)-The 2011-12 season opener for D'Youville College basketball will take place Tuesday November 15th with a non-conference date at Buffalo State College. The women's contest gets the night going at 6:00 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 8:00 p.m.

It will be the first career collegiate game for D'Youville College men's Head coach Earl Schunk. The longtime Buffalo area coach has over 30 years coaching experience and last year guided Tapestry Charter School to the Section IV Class C final.

Marisa Gallo begins her third season at the helm of the D'Youville women's program. The Spartans have five returning players and an group of newcomers ready to make an immediate impact.

Both teams will be away November 19-20, the women at the Oswego State Tournament and the men at the Calvin College (MI) Tournament. The home opener for both teams is November 22 versus Fredonia State.

Golf's Civin Named to All-Conference Team

Buffalo, NY (11/8/11)-Freshman Harrison Civin (Clarence, NY/Clarence) completed his first season of competition as a member of the D'Youville College golf team with an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Third-Team All-Conference selection.

Civin averaged 83.2 per round and posted the team's low score in the five events he competed.

Four Spartans Named to AMCC All-Conference Teams

Buffalo, NY (11/8/11)-D’Youville College student-athletes garnered four selections today when the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference released their All-Conference awards in women’s soccer, men’s soccer, and women’s volleyball.

Sophomore Danielle Gehen (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) was named to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference women’s soccer First-Team after setting new school single-season records in goals and points.  The second-year forward led the AMCC in six offensive categories: goals (16), goals per game (0.94), assists (9), assists per game (0.53), points (41), and points per game (2.41).

It is the second-straight season Gehen has received All-Conference after being a Third-Team selection in 2010.

Sophomore Colleen Wiechec (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) received her first-career conference award with an AMCC Third-Team selection in women’s soccer. The second-year midfielder scored 10 points on four goals and two assists, all career highs, and also gave the Spartans a defensive presence that helped record a team goals against of 2.55 (second-lowest in program history).

After a breakout season, third-year forward Josh Pfuntner (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) was selected to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference men’s soccer Third-Team. Pfuntner was tenth in the AMCC in scoring with 18 points on seven goals and four assists. All were single-season career highs. Pfuntner was also third in the conference in shots per game (3.18).

Pfunter also had a career-high two game-winning goals in 2011 and helped the Spartans to their highest win total since the 2000 season.

Women’s volleyball standout Luciana Payne (Buffalo, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) was an AMCC Third-Team selection.

The third-year middle hitter was sixth in the conference in kills per set played (2.87), eighth in service aces (0.38 per set), and tenth in hitting percentage (217).  It is Payne’s first career All-conference nod.

Men's Basketball Hosts Exhibition Game Versus Brock

Buffalo, NY (11/5/11)-Brock University came to the College Center Gym Saturday for an exhibition game against the D'Youville men's basketball team. The visitors from St Catharines, Ontario, playing in their fifteenth contest of the year, left with a 101-54 win.

The Spartans were led by Raysean Johnson (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland) with a team high 13 points followed by Jeff Curry (Buffalo, NY/Lafayette) with 12 points. Greg Osika (Depew, NY/Depew) added eight points, a team-high seven rebounds, and a game-high five steals for the Spartans.

D'Youville opens the 2011-12 regular season November 15th at Buffalo State College.

Late Goal Ends Women's Soccer Season

Buffalo, NY (10/29/11)-Medaille College scored the winning goal with 1:52 left in the second-half to push past D’Youville College 2-1 in the first-round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference women’s soccer tournament.

AMCC scoring leader Danielle Gehen (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) tied the game in the fifty-fifth minute with her 16th of the season off a nice feed from Colleen Wiechec (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda).

D’Youville ends the 2011 season with a 7-9-1 record.

Women's Cross-Country Fourth at AMCC Championship; Men Tenth

Grand Island, NY (10/29/11)-The D'Youville College women's cross-country team placed fourth out of 10 at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship.

Maria Fusco (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) was thirteenth with a 6-kilometer time of 27:56. Melyssa Peplowski (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East) was 21st with a 6K time of 28:36.

Jarred Bogardus (Gowanda, NY/Gowanda) placed 44th with a eight-kilometer time of 33:40. William Goode (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) was 57th with an 8K time 35:46.

Women's Volleyball Closes 2011 Season

Steubenville, OH (10/29/11)-Women's volleyball season ended with a three-set loss at Franciscan University. Game scores were 25-11, 25-20, 25-23.

Colleen Brady (North Tonawanda, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) totaled 20 assists and Luciana Payne (Buffalo, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) had nine kills for the Spartans.

Women's Soccer AMCC First-Round Match Set for October 29

Buffalo, NY (10/27/11)-The pairings of the first-round matches for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference women's soccer tournament were announced today and D'Youville College will open the tournament at home versus a familiar foe.

D'Youville (5-4 AMCC, 7-8-1 overall) , seeded fourth, will play fifth-seeded Medaille College (5-4 AMCC, 7-10 overall) Saturday October 29 at 2:00 p.m. The match will be played at Riverside High School (51 Ontario St.; Buffalo, NY) and admission is free.

The two teams met on the Riverside turf October 5th with D'Youville coming out on top 5-0. Danielle Gehen (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) scored twice for the Spartans.

The Spartans feature sophomore Gehen, the AMCC leader in goals (15), assists (9), and points (39). Also giving D'Youville offensive firepower is senior Stephanie Lozzi (Youngstown, NY/Lewiston-Porter) with 19 points on eight goals and three assists and junior Samantha Giebner (Sicklerville, NJ/Winslow Township) with 17 points on five goals and seven assists.

Medaille features Joey Ruderman (8G-2A-18Pts) and Katie Botsford (4G-4A-12Pts). The Mavericks have won two-straight and four of their last five with all of the wins in shutout fashion.

D'Youville has won six of their last seven overall. The Spartans have won their last two on the turf at Riverside, both by shutouts.

The winner travels to top-seed Penn State Altoona for an AMCC semifinal match Wednesday November 2.

Payne and Campbell Highlight Women's Volleyball Match at Hilbert

Hamburg, NY (10/26/11)-Luciana Payne (Buffalo, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) had 13 kills and Anna Campbell (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) added 15 digs and three service aces in the Spartan's four-set loss at Hilbert College.

D'Youville will close the season October 29th at Franciscan University.

Gehen Goal Sets Two New Single-Season Records but Spartans Lose Last Regular Season Match Before Tourney

Erie, PA (10/26/11)-The D'Youville College women's soccer team lost this afternoon 5-1 at Penn State Behrend in the regular-season finale for both teams. The loss ended the Spartan's team-record winning streak at six.

The Spartan's lone goal came in the thirty-first minute from sophomore forward Danielle Gehen (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) and it was a historic one for the Spartan program. Gehen's tally was her 15th of the season and broke the school's single-season goal record (breaking the mark of 14 set by Amy Dziomba in 2007). The goal also pushed Gehen's point total this season to 39, also a setting new single-season school record (passing the mark of 38 set by Danielle Braun in 2010).

Gehen currently leads all Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference players in goals (15), assists (9), and points (39)..

D'Youville (7-8-1, 5-4 AMCC) will have to wait until the final of tonight's La Roche at Penn State Altoona match to learn where and who the Spartans will play in the first-round of the AMCC Tournament October 29th.

If La Roche knocks off league leading Altoona, D'Youville will travel to La Roche. A La Roche loss or tie and the Spartans will host Medaille College Saturday (October 29th) at Riverside High School starting at 2:00 p.m.

Winning Streak and Season Ends for Men's Soccer

Erie, PA (10/26/11)-The D'Youville College men's soccer team traveled to Erie, PA riding the program's longest winning streak since 1999 and needed a win or a tie to clinch a berth in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament. The Spartan's win streak ends at four with a 6-0 loss at Penn State Behrend.

D'Youville finishes the 2011 season with a record of 6-11 overall, 4-5 in AMCC play, and accumulated the program's highest win total and conference win total since the 2000 season.

Crew Finishes Fall Season With Match Race Win

Buffalo, NY (10/26/11)-The fall competition season came to an end for the D'Youville rowing team and the Spartans closed autumn with a Varsity 8+ match race win over two boats Canisius College.

The D'Youville crew crossed the finish line of the 3,000-meter race with a time of 14:20, seven seconds ahead of the Canisius "A" boat and twenty-seven seconds faster than the Canisius "B" boat.

Competing for D'Youville this morning was: :Kaitlynn Trzaska (Tonwanda, NY/Kenmore East), Hannah McDaid (Hillsbourough, UK/Methodist College), Marissa Benzin (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), Amanda Pughakoff (Buffalo, NY/West Seneca East), Andrea Milleville (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls), Mindy Walck (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda), Bridget Clifford (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia), and coxswain Lauren Ciurzynski (Attica, NY/Attica).

"The girls put together a solid race and finished off their fall season on a positive note. We look forward to meeting Canisius College again in the spring as both teams continue to improve their speed, said Head coach John Dorn.

D'Youville will resume competition in March, 2012.

Lozzi and Pfuntner Receive AMCC Weekly Award

Buffalo, NY (10/24/11)-The D'Youville College men's and women's soccer teams are on team record winning streaks and sported a perfect 2-0 record. Today the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conferene named a player from each team as AMCC Offensive Player of the Week.

Stephanie Lozzi (Youngstown, NY/Lewiston Porter) tied a team single-game record with 10 points, on four goals and two assists, October 20th at Penn State Beaver. Lozzi then scored the game's only goal in the Spartan's 1-0 win over Franciscan October 22nd. The Spartans are on a team-record six game winning streak.

D'Youville won in non-conference play 17-1 at Penn State Beaver October 20, setting a new team single-game goal record. October 22 they edged Franciscan 1-0.

Lozzi has 19 points on eight goals and three assists and is sixth in AMCC scoring.

This is the second-straight week a D'Youville player has received the AMCC Offensive Player of the Week award. Danielle Gehen (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) was last week's winner.

D'Youville (7-7-1, 5-3 AMCC) plays at Penn State Behrend October 26. D'Youville has clinched an AMCC Tournament berth for the second-straight season.

Also on a team-record winning streak is men's soccer. The Spartan's went 2-0 last week and have won four-straight for the first time since 1999.Josh Pfuntner (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) scored two goals, both game-winners, and assisted on another and was named AMCC Offensive Player of the Week.

D'Youville defeated Morrisville State 2-1 in a non-conference game October 20 and Franciscan 2-1 October 22.

The third-year forward is having a breakout season with 18 points on 7 goals and 4 assists, all career highs, and is ninth in the conference in scoring

D'Youville (6-10, 4-4) has its highest win total since 2000 and closes the regular season at Penn State Behrend October 26. The Spartans are seeking their first conference tournament berth since the 2003 season.

Changes Made for October 26 Soccer Away Date; AMCC Tournament Scenarios Examined

Buffalo, NY (10/24/11)-Changes to the time and location have been made to the October 26th soccer date at Penn State Behrend. The men's match will begin at noon with women's contest to follow at 2:00 p.m. Both matches will be played at Mercyhurst College.

The D'Youville men's team (4-4 AMCC, 6-10 overall) is currently riding a team-record four-match winning streak. On Wednesday the Spartans can secure a berth in the AMCC Tournament and possibly host a first-round match with a win. D'Youville can still qualify with a loss if Pitt-Greensburg loses at Franciscan. D'Youville would not make the tournament field with a loss and a Pitt-Greensburg win.

The D'Youville women's soccer team (5-3 AMCC, 7-7-1 overall) is also enjoying a team-record winning streak, their's currently at six. The Spartans have already clinched a berth in the AMCC Tournament and are playing to improve their seed and to play host to first-round match. A win and the Spartans clinch the third seed and host a first-round match versus the sixth seed. A loss and a win by La Roche at league leading Penn State Altoona Wednesday would move the Spartans to the fifth seed and put them on the road to play at La Roche. A loss combined with a La Roche loss and a Medaille win or tie Tuesday versus Hilbert would have the Spartans as the fourth seed and hosting a home game versus Medaille October 29th.

Soccer Teams Extend Streaks With Wins Over Franciscan

Buffalo, NY (10/22/11)-On Senior Night, the Spartan seniors played key roles as both the men's and women's soccer teams picked up key conference wins over Franciscan University.

In the men's game, senior Tom Barlow (Depew, NY/West Seneca Christian) scored the game's first goal in the thirty-second minute, assisted by Josh Pfuntner (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton), and Pfuntner scored the eventual game-winner in the forty-third minute to give D'Youville a 2-1 win over Franciscan.

The Spartans have won four-straight and tie the program record for consecutive wins set in their inaugural year of 1999. D'Youville is now 4-4 in AMCC play, 6-10 overall. and still in the hunt for berth in the AMCC Tournament.

The D'Youville women's soccer team won their sixth-straight, a new team record for consecutive victories, with a 1-0 win over Franciscan University. Senior Stephanie Lozzi (Youngstown, NY/Lewiston-Porter) scored the game's only goal in the twelfth minute, assisted by Samantha Giebner (Sicklerville, NJ/Winslow Township).

The Spartans improve to 5-3 in AMCC play, 7-7-1 overall.

Crew Wins Two Match Races Against Rival Caz

In the 3,000-meter Varsity 4+ race, The D'Youville "A" boat finished first with a time of 14:30, followed by the D'Youville "B" boat with a time of 15:12. Cazenovia was third with a time of 16:40.

Then in the 3,00-meter Novice 4+ race, D'Youville finished ahead of Cazenovia with a time of 16:22 and was ahead of the Cazenovia boat by 1:30.

D'Youville will close the fall racing schedule Wednesday (Oct. 26) with a 3000-meter match race versus Canisius College. Start time at West Side Rowing Club will be 7:10 a.m.

Women's Soccer Sets Single-Game Goal Record in Win; Gehen and Lozzi Tie School Records

Monaca, PA (10/19/11)-The D'Youville College women's soccer team established a new school single-game goal record in their 17-1 rout of Penn State Beaver. The 17 goals scored by the Spartans breaks the total of 12 set last year versus Penn State Beaver.

The 17 goal output also ties the current NCAA Division III single-game high for the 2011 season (UC-Santa Cruz against Mills, Milwaukee School of Engineering against Rockford).

Other school records were tied and a number of players had career-high point totals in the win.

Danielle Gehen (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) scored three goals and assisted on four more. Gehen now has 14 tallies on the season and ties the program's single-season goal total set by Amy Dziomba in 2007.

Stephanie Lozzi (Youngstown, NY/Lewiston Porter) scored a career-high four goals and assisted on two more. The 10 points apiece scored by Gehen and Lozzi tie the school's single-game record established by Amy Dziomba September 9, 2007 at Keystone College (five goals).

Establishing career single-game highs in the win were: Colleen Wiechec (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) with four goals. Samantha Giebner (Sicklerville, NJ/Winslow Township) with seven points (two goals, three assists.) Abby Blakely (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) with five points (two goals, one assist). Kayla Hartnett (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) with five points (one goal, three assists) and Shannon Wilson (Tonawanda, NY/Holy Angels Academy) with two assists.

Men's Soccer Wins Third-Straight

West Seneca, NY (10/19/11)-D'Youville College defeated Morrisville State 2-1 in a hard fought non-conference men's soccer match. The win gives the Spartans their first three-match win streak in 12 years and highest win total for the program since 2000.

Neil Janes (Lee Center, NY/Rome Free Academy) opened the scoring with a successful penalty kick in the twenty-third minute and Josh Pfuntner (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) notched the winner forty-six seconds into the second-half. For Janes it was his second of the season and for Pfuntner his team leading sixth of the season. Ryan Camman (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) assisted on the Pfuntner tally and has points in the last three games along with Pfuntner.

D'Youville returns to AMCC play this Saturday (Oct. 22) when they face Franciscan University at Riverside High School (51 Ontario Street, Buffalo) starting at 6:00 p.m. It is the team's Senior Night and prior to the start of the contest fourth-year players Mark Wallenhorst (Forestville, NY/St. Francis) and Tom Barlow (Depew, NY/West Seneca Christian) will be honored.

Senior Night for Women's Volleyball Sees Spartans Push to Four Sets

Buffalo, NY (10/18/11)-On Senior Night, the D'Youville women's volleyball team went four sets before falling to cross-town rival Medaille.

Medaille won the first 25-16 and D'Youville battled back to win the second 26-24. The visitors took the third 25--21 and closed out the Spartans 25-17 in the fourth set.

Colleen Brady (North Tonawanda, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) dished a career high 33 assists and Danielle Swanston (Burke, NY/Chateaugay) smacked a team-high 15 kills with a hitting percentage of .542. Luciana Payne (Buffalo, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) added 11 kills and two blocks for the Spartans.

Playing in her final home match, Brittany Yocius (Aliquippa, PA/Hopewell) picked up 11 digs and two service aces.

The next match for D'Youville is October 26th at Hilbert College..

Danielle Gehen Named AMCC Player of the Week

Buffalo, NY (10/17/11)-After recording 10 points in two matches this week, D'Youville College women's soccer player Danielle Gehen (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) was named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player of the Week.

The sophomore forward scored two goals October 11th at Hilbert in the Spartan's 4-3 win and then went for two goals and two assists October 15th at La Roche College. The Spartans won that match 6-2 and clinched a berth in the AMCC Tournament for a second-straight year.

This is the second time in 2011 Gehen has garnered AMCC Player of the Week honors. She received the honor September 6th.

So far this season Gehen has recorded career-high totals in goals (11) and points (27).

Next up for D'Youville (5-7-1) is a non-conference match at Penn State Beaver October 19th. In last season's 12-0 win versus Penn State Beaver, Gehen recorded three goals and three assists and enters this year's meeting only three goals away from tying the school's single-season goal record of 14 set by Amy Dziomba in 2007.

Danielle Gehen had two goals and two assists and Gabrielle Kopasz also scored twice in the women's soccer 6-2 win at Mount Aloysius. The Spartans clinch a berth in the AMCC Tournament for the second-straight year and have won four-straight...Josh Pfuntner had a goal and an assist and Ryan Camman also scored in the men's soccer 2-0 win at Mount Aloysius. The Spartans have won two straight...Cross-Country was theat CCOC in Seneca Lake, NY. The women's team tied for 5th out of 16 teams with Maria Fusco finishing eighth overall out of 126 competing with a time 0f 21:41.95. The men's team was 13th overall and Jarred Bogardus was the team's top finisher...Crew's Varsity 4+ boat finished seventh at the Head of the Genesee regatta in Rochester...Luciana Payne totaled 26 kills and six blocks in the two women's volleyball matches played Saturday at La Roche College...Meghan Atallah, Jessica Lampka, Kaitlyn Roland, and Angela Poblocki were victorious on day one of the AMCC Women's Tennis Championship before falling in the semifinals of their respective flights. The doubles team of Atallah and Lampka won their first-round match-up before falling in the semifinals. The Spartans finished fifth at the Championship.

Spartans Drop Conference Match at Home

Buffalo, NY (10/12/11)-Visiting Penn State Behrend topped the D'Youville women's volleyball team in three sets tonight in the College Center Gym. Set scores were 25-16, 25-7, 25-14.

Luciana Payne (Buffalo, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) had a team high seven kills and Lara Svensson (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home) picked up 11 digs for D'Youville.

D'Youville will travel to Pittsburgh Saturday October 15th for a pair of AMCC matches. The Spartans will play at La Roche College along with a match versus Pitt-Greensburg.

Women's Soccer Win Puts AMCC Tournament in Sight

Hamburg, NY (10/11/11)-The D'Youville College women's soccer team evened their conference record to .500 with a 4-3 win at Hilbert College.

Danielle Gehen (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) scored two goals and has scored five goals in the last three games. Also scoring for the Spartans was Samantha Smith (Ilion, NY/Mohawk) and Samantha Giebner (Sicklerville, NJ/Winslow Township). Giebner has goals in her last two games and seven points in the last three contests.

The win puts D'Youville into sixth place in the AMCC standings and the Spartans can clinch a spot in conference tournament for a second-straight year with a win Saturday (Oct. 15) at Mount Aloysius.

Wabick Nets Two in Men's Soccer Win

Hamburg, NY (10/11/11)-Powered by two Jordan Wabick (West Seneca, NY/Orchard Park) goals, the D'Youville men's soccer team won 2-1 at Hilbert College.

Wabick opened the game with a goal in the thirtieth minute assisted by Neil Janes (Lee Center, NY/Rome Free Academy) and Josh Pfuntner (Wayland, NY/Wayland Cohockton). Then tied at 1-1, the junior midfielder nailed the winner in the the seventy-sevwere victorious on day one of the AMCC Women's Tennis Championship Saturdayenth minute.

The next game for the Spartans is Saturday October 15 at Mount Aloysius.

Women's Volleyball Wins Two at Tournament

Oswego, NY (10/7/11)-Women's volleyball won their first match at the Oswego State Tournament defeating Morrisville State 25-20, 25-17, 25-15. Danielle Swanston (Burke, NY/Chateaugay) had a match-high 17 kills followed by Luciana Payne (Buffalo, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) with 14 kills.

In the second match, D'Youville swept host Oswego in three sets. Luciana Payne had a match-high 10 kills and Jayde Stevens (Lawtons, NY/Gowanda) added a season-high eight kills.

Women's Soccer Back on Track with Shutout of Medaille

Buffalo, NY (10/5/11)-Women's soccer won their first conference match of the season with a 5-0 shutout of Medaille College. The Spartans broke the game open in the first half with three goals in a span of 3:49.

Stephanie Lozzi (Youngstown, NY/Lewiston-Porter) opened the game with a breakaway goal in the 24th minute. Danielle Gehen (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) then scored twice in 1:47. Abby Blakely (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) scored her first career goal in the 33rd minute, and Gabrielle Kopasz (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter) closed the scoring in the 66th minute. Samantha Giebner (Sicklerville, NJ/Winslow Township) had two assists.

Before the first-half goal binge by the Spartans, the team was being outshot 5-1 and goalkeeper Christina Ventresca (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) made some key saves. The sophomore turned back nine shots to record her first shutout of the season and second of her career.

In the men's game, goalkeeper Matt Smith (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen) made nine saves in the Spartan's 4-0 loss to Medaille.

The next date for D'Youville soccer is October 8th at Pitt-Greensburg.

Letina Records Double-Double at Bradford

Bradford, PA (10/4/11)-Amber Letina (Lawtons, NY/North Collins) totaled a double-double of 24 assists and 11 digs, Luciana Payne (Buffalo, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) had 14 kills, and Danielle Swanston (Burke, NY/Chateaugay) collected 21 digs in the Spartan's three-set loss at Pitt-Bradfiord. Set scores were 25-19, 25-20, and 25-19.

Next up for the Spartans is the Oswego State Tournament October 7-8.

Women's Tennis Edges Altoona, Qualifies for AMCC

Williamsville, NY (10/1/11)-A late Saturday start became an early Sunday finish for the D'Youville women's tennis team. The Spartans hit the court at 9:30 p.m. and left just after 1a.m. with a 5-4 win over Penn State Altoona.

Meghan Atallah (Kenmore, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) and Jessica Lampka (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) won in first doubles, and winning in second doubles was Ali Mascioletti (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and Kaitlyn Roland (Victor, NY/Victor). Singles winners were Atallah, Lampka, and Mascioletti.

With the win D'Youville qualifies for AMCC Tournament held October 15-16 in Wexford, PA. The winner of the AMCC receives automatic qualification to the NCAA Division III Tournament. It is the second-straight year D'Youville has qualified for the conference tournament.

Spartans Shock La Roche 3-1

Buffalo, NY (10/1/11)-After giving up a fluky goal off a throw in 1:54 into the game, the D'Youville College men's soccer team took control late in the first half then outplayed La Roche College to get the win 3-1.

Shawn Powers (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) scored his first career goal with 21 seconds left in the first half to tie the game at one. Stephen Acheampong (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus) scored his first goal in the 60th minute and Josh Pfuntner (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) added the insurance marker in the 88th minute. Neil Janes (Lee Center, NY/Rome Free Academy) assisted on all three D'Youville goals and goalkeeper Matt Smith (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen) made eight saves after giving up the early goal.

Pfuntner was a threat all game, totaling match-highs in shots (6) and shots on goal (4). Acheampong records his first career three-point game with an assist on the Pfuntner goal.

"This was a great effort tonight," said Head coach Matt McCormick. "Our back liners did a great job and our three up top just clicked all night."

La Roche falls to 7-4 overall, 1-2 in the AMCC. D'Youville is 2-8 overall, 1-2 in the AMCC.

Women's soccer closed the doubleheader with a 2-0 loss to La Roche. Kayla Hartnett (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park ) had a team-high three shots on goal.

The next date for D'Youville soccer is October 5th versus Medaille at Riverside High School. The men;s game kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with the women's contest to follow at 7:30 p.m.

Cross-Country Tops Hilbert at Meghan Memorial

Hamburg, NY (10/1/11)-In the women's and men's college division of the Hilbert College/Meghan Memorial D'Youville topped host Hilbert with Spartan runners turning in the best times.

The women won 16-56 over Hilbert. Maria Fusco (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) ran the 5-kilometer course in 22:59 to lead the pack. Melyssa Peplowski (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East) was second with a time of 23:48.

Jarred Bogardus (Gowanda, NY/Gowanda) turned in a 5K time of 19:46 to finish first and William Goode (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) was second overall with a time of 21:06 to lead D'Youville to a 22-33 win over Hilbert in the men's race.

Changes to Weekend Tennis Schedule

Buffalo, NY (9/30/11)-Weather has forced changes to the upcoming women's tennis schedule. The time for the October 1st match versus Penn State Altoona has been changed to 9:00 p.m. at Miller Tennis Center (5959 Sheridan Dr.; Williamsville, NY). Women's Volleyball in Friday Tri-Match

Grove City, PA (9/30/11)-D'Youville traveled to Grove City College for non-conference matches against the host school and Wesminster College.

In the first match, Luciana Payne (Buffalo, NY/Mount St. Mary) had a team-high seven kills and three blocks and Emily McDonald (North Syracuse, NY/Liverpool) added six kills and 10 digs in the Spartan's three-set loss to Westminster.

In the second match Colleen Brady (North Tonawanda, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) recorded her first career double-double with 16 assists and 11 digs in the three-set loss to Grove City.

D'Youville will play at Pitt-Bradford October 4th.

Women's Volleyball Defeated in Non-Conference Match

Brockport, NY (9/28/11)-The D’Youville women’s volleyball team traveled to Brockport to play a non-conference match and the Spartans were defeated in three sets. Game scores were 25-19, 25-16, 25-17.

Lara Svensson (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home) had a team-high 10 digs for D’Youville (3-10).

Next up for D’Youville is a tri-match at Grove City College. D’Youville will play Westminster at 7 p.m. followed by a match with host Grove City at 9 p.m.

First Conference Home Doubleheader Does Not Go Spartans Way

West Seneca, NY (9/27/11)-The D'Youville College men's soccer team played their first match of the season on the home side. D'Youville gave up three first-half goals to lose 3-1 to Pitt-Bradford.

Josh Pfuntner (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) scored for D'Youville in the eighty-eighth minute, assisted by Stephen Acheampong (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus). Pfuntner also had an apparent goal disallowed in the eighty-first minute.

In the women's game, visiting Pitt-Bradford scored three first half goals to defeat D'Youville 3-0.

Steubenville, OH (9/25/11)-Megan Atallah (Kenmore, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) won in first singles and that was the Spartan's only breakthrough in the team's 8-1 loss at Franciscan.

Program Record Tied By Schultz, Golf Sixth at Invite

Amherst, NY (9/24/11)-For the first time this season James Schultz (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) recorded the low D'Youville score at an event and also placed his name in the school record book. Schultz shot a five-over par 77 at Glen Oaks CC, good for a fifth-place tie at the Medaille College Invitational, and tied the school record for a single round low score.

Jacob Northrup (Rixford, PA/Otto-Eldred) shot a season low 81 and the Spartans finished sixth overall at the event with a team score of 288.

The Spartans will close out the fall portion of the schedule with the AMCC Championship October 9-10 at Oak Tree CC in West Middlesex, PA.

Cross-Country at RWC Invite

Rochester, NY (9/24/11)-D'Youville competed at the Roberts Wesleyan/Harry F. Anderson Invitational Saturday. Melyssa Peplowski (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East) was the low D'Youville finisher with a time of 21:37. The Spartans were tenth with a score of 279.

Jarred Bogardus (Gowanda, NY/Gowanda) was the low Spartan in the men's race with a time of 31:56 and D'Youville was eleventh with a score of 330.

Women's Volleyball Loses Conference Opener in Four Sets

Buffalo, NY (9/24/11)-Danielle Swanston (Burke, NY/Chateaugay) had a season-high 19 kills and Luciana Payne (Buffalo, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) added nine kills and six blocks in the Spartan's four set loss to visiting Mount Aloysius.

Tonawanda, NY (9/24/11)-The D'Youville crew opened the season with the varsity 8+ boat and finished third in a 5000-meter race against two boats from the University at Buffalo.

Women's Volleyball Defeats Penn State Beaver

Monaca, PA (9/20/22)-The D'Youville College women's volleyball team ended their six-match losing streak with a 3-0 non-conferecne win at Penn State Beaver. Set scores were 25-16, 25-9, 27-25.

Luciana Payne (Buffalo, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) led the Spartans with 10 kills and nine service aces. Amber Letina (Lawtons, NY/North Collins) added 10 assists, five kills, and four service aces for D'Youville (3-7).

The Spartans will host a pair of AMCC matches September 24th in the College Center Gym. D'Youville will host Mount Aloysius at 1:00 p.m. followed by a 3:00 p.m. match versus Penn State Altoona.

Golf Eighth at Penn State Behrend; Civin Cards Season Low Round

Erie, PA (9/20/11)-The D'Youville College golf team came in eighth at the Penn State Behrend Invitational with a team score of 353.

Freshman Harrison Civin (Clarence, NY/Clarence) shot an 80 breaking the season low 81 turned in at last week's D'Youville Spartan Shootout. Civin has carded the Spartan's low total inall four events this season.

Tennis Wins Third-Straight, Unbeaten in Conference

Williamsville, NY (9/18/11)-The D'Youville College women's tennis team won their third-straight match and remained undefeated in conference play with a 6-3 win over visiting Mount Aloysius College.

D'Youville opened the match with an 8-5 win in first doubles from Kaitlyn Roland (Victor, NY/Victor) and Meghan Atallah (Kenmore, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy), followed by an 8-2 win in third doubles from the duo of Jessica Collins (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) and Angela Poblocki (Akron, NY/Akron).

Atallah opened singles play with a come from behind win (4-6, 6-1, 6-4) and also singles matches were Jessica Lampka (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), Ali Mascioletti (Hilton, NY/Hilton), and Poblocki.

Luciana Payne (Buffalo, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) had a team-high 10 kills and Lara Svensson (Tonawanda, NY/Sweet Home) picked up 13 digs for the Spartans.

The next match for D'Youville is September 20th at Penn State Beaver. Then the Spartans will open the conference schedule September 24th at home versus Mount Aloysius at 1 p.m. followed by Penn State Altoona at 3:00 p.m.

Men's Soccer Defeated in Non-Conference Match

Greenville, PA (9/17/11)-Thiel College defeated D'Youville College 3-0 in a non-conference men's soccer match.

After seven-straight away contests to start the season, the Spartans play their home opener Wednesday September 21 versus St. John Fisher College. Start time at the Riverside High School Athletic Complex (51 Ontario St.; Buffalo, NY) is 7:30 p.m.

Women's Soccer Battles to a 1-1 Tie

Greenville, PA (9/17/11)-It looked like it was going to be high scoring afternoon between the D'Youville and Thiel women's soccer teams. A goal from D'Youville's Kayla Hartnett (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) in the fifth minute tied the game at 1-1. After that the teams played 114:26 of scoreless soccer and the non-conference match ended in a 1-1 tie after two overtimes.

Stephanie Lozzi (Youngstown, NY/Lewiston-Porter) assisted on the Hartnett's second of the season, and second in as many games. Spartan goalkeeper Christina Ventresca (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) made six saves.

D'Youville (1-4-1) plays at their AMCC opener September 24th at Penn State Altoona.

Women's Cross-Country Eighth at Invitational, New Men's Team Record Set

Erie, PA (9/17/11)-It was the best showing of the year for the D'Youville College women's cross-country team today at the Penn State Behrend Invitational. D'Youville finished eighth out of eleven competing teams with a score of 245.

The result was powered by the finish of their top two runners. For the third-straight event Melyssa Peplowski (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East) was the top D'Youville finisher. Peplowski turned in a five-kilometer time of 21:36.1, good for 40th overall out of 100 competitors. Maria Fusco (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) was 43rd overall with a 21:49.1 for 5K.

Freshman Jarred Bogardus (Gowanda, NY/Gowanda) set a new team record for an eight-kilometer event. Bogardus completed the course in 31:30.1, good for 79th overall, and it was the second time this season the first-year runner was the team's top finisher. D'Youville finished thirteenth with a team score of 368.

Women's Tennis Rallies to Win, Now 2-0 in Conference Play

Greensburg, PA (9/16/11)-After dropping two of three doubles matches and the first two singles matches, D'Youville won the final four singles matches to edge Pitt-Greensburg 5-4.

D'Youville moves to 2-0 in the AMCC, 2-1 overall.

Singles winners were Ali Mascioletti (Hilton, NY/Hilton), Kaitlyn Roland (Victor, NY/Victor), Jessica Collins (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili), and Angela Poblocki (Akron, NY/Akron). The Spartans only double win came from Mascioltetti and Jessica Lampka (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster)

The Spartans will host Mount Aloysius at Miller Tennis Center (5959 Sheridan Dr.; Williamsville, NY) Sunday (Sep. 18) at 10:00 a.m.

Four Goal First-Half Sends Spartans to Defeat

Buffalo, NY (9/14/11)-Under the lights at the Riverside Athletic Complex, the D'Youville College women's soccer team yielded three goals in a span of 8:36, two of which came 1:04 apart, and lost 4-2 to visiting Utica College.

Samantha Smith (Ilion, NY/Mohawk) scored her first of the season at the six-minute mark to tie the game at one and freshman Kayla Hartnett (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) scored her first collegiate goal in the fifty-sixth minute.

The next match for D'Youville is Saturday September 17th at Thiel College. Start time is 1:00 p.m.

Men's Soccer Shut Out in Non-Conference Match

Keuka Park, NY (9/14/11)-In their sixth road match of the season, the D'Youville College men's soccer team was shutout 3-0 at Keuka College.

D'Youville hits the road again Saturday September 17th for a 3:30 p.m. match at Thiel College.

Women's Volleyball Swept at Home

Buffalo, NY (9/13/11)-D'Youville lost a three-set decision at home to Buffalo State. Set scores were 25-18, 25-13, 25-22. Amber Letina (Lawtons, NY/North Collins) was the Spartan's top performer with three kills, five assists, eight digs, and one block.

The next match for D'Youville is September 18th at home versus Washington & Jefferson. Start time in the College Center Gym is 11:00 a.m.

Civin Fifth Overall at Spartan Shootout

Forestville, NY (9/13/11)-D’Youville College hosted their annual Spartan Shootout at Tri-County Country Club this afternoon. The Spartans finished fifth in their home event with a team score 372. The top Spartan finisher was Harrison Civin (Clarence, NY/Clarence), tied for fifth overall, with an 81.

Camman Scores First Career Goal, Spartans Outshoot Opposition in Loss

Potsdam, NY (9/11/11)-Despite out shooting Lyndon State (VT) 20-19, the D'Youville men's soccer team found themselves on the wrong end of 3-1 score for the second-straight match at the Potsdam State Tournament.

Ryan Camman (Greece, NY/Greece Olympia) scored his first career goal. Anthony Galvano (North Tonawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) assisted for his first career point.

Jordan Wabick (West Seneca, NY/Orchard Park) and John Schomaker (Colchester, CT/St. Bernard's) were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Spartans next match is September 14th under the lights at Keuka College. Start time for the non-conference match is 7:00 p.m.

Women's Soccer Ends Weekend With Shutout Loss

Buffalo, NY (9/10/11)-Women's soccer out shot visiting Alfred University 15-4 and held a 7-4 edge in shots on goal but a Saxon tally in the 30th minute held up and D'Youville left on the short end of a 1-0 score.

Last night at Oswego State, Danielle Gehen (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) scored her fourth goal of the season in 4-1 Spartan loss.

The Spartans will play Utica College on their home turf at Riverside High School (51 Ontario St.; Buffalo, NY) Wednesday September 13th. Start time is 7:30 p.m.

Janes Scores, Smith Shines in Spartan Defeat

Potsdam, NY (9/10/11)-On day one of the Potsdam State men's soccer tournament, Neil Janes (Lee Center, NY/Rome Free Academy) scored his first goal of the season and Spartan goalkeeper Matt Smith (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen) made 14 saves but the Spartans were stopped 3-1 by host Potsdam.

The Spartans will play the third-place match tomorrow at noon.

Atallah and Roland Remain Unbeaten, Women’s Tennis Wins Conference Opener

Williamsville, NY (9/10/11)-D’Youville women’s tennis defeated their cross-town rival Medaille College 6-3 in the conference opener for both teams.

The doubles team of Meghan Atallah (Kenmore, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) and Kaitlyn Roland (Victor, NY/Victor) won their second match in as many days with a 8-0 win over Sarah Block and Aurora Linforth.. The second doubles duo is 2-0 to start the season.

Atallah then won in second singles 6-3, 6-0 and Roland won 6-0, 6-1 in fourth singles. They are each 2-0 in singles this season.

Also 2-0 to start the season in singles is Jessica Lampka (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster). Lampka won 6-3, 6-3 over Courtney Kopper.

It was the first career win for Head coach Nick Bolea.

D’Youville is 1-1, 1-0 AMCC. Medaille is 0-2, 0-1 AMCC.

Swanston Named to All-Tournament Team

Erie, PA (9/10/11)-In women's volleyball, D'Youville lost both of thei matches on day two of the Penn State Behrend Invitational. The Spartans took the first against Kenyon 28-26 then dropped the next three. In the second match D'Youville was swept in three sets by Hiram.

Danielle Swanston (Burke, NY/Chateaugay) was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Spartans host Buffalo State September 13th at 7:00 p.m. in the College Center Gym.

Cross-Country Teams Eighth at Hamilton Invite

Hamilton, NY (9/10/11)-The women's and men's cross-country teams competed Saturday at the Hamilton College Short Course Invitational. Both Spartan squads finished in eighth place in theri respective races.

The top finisher the D'Youville women was Melyssa Peplowski (Kenmore, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) with a time of 18:39.1. William Goode (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) posted the top Spartan time at 25:32.6.

Civin Posts Spartans Low Round at Invite

Gowanda, NY (9/9/11)-For the second time in as many events freshman Harrison Civin (Clarence, NY/Clarence) has carded the low round for D'Youville at a golf tournament.

Friday at the Hilbert College Invitational, Civin shot an 87 to lead D'Youville to a fourth place finish.

D'Youville will host their Spartan Shootout Tuesday September 13th at Tri-County Country Club.

Women's Volleyball Sweeps Alfred, Improves Record to 2-1

Buffalo, NY (9/7/11)-D’Youville College defeated visiting Alfred University 3-0 in a non-conference women’s volleyball match played in the College Center Gym. Set scores were 25-23, 25-13, and 25-14.

Luciana Payne (Buffalo, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) smacked a match-high 12 kills, Danielle Swanston (Burke, NY/Chateaugay) added seven kills, and Amber Letina (Lawtons, NY/North Collins) dished a match-high 24 assists for D’Youville (2-1).

Men's Soccer Defeated in Cross-Town Match

Buffalo, NY (9/7/11)-Men's soccer traveled just down the road to take on Buffalo State in a non-conference match and the host Bengals defeated D'Youville 6-0.

The Spartans played a competitive second half yielding a lone goal late in the frame.

The next match for D'Youville is September 10th at Potsdam State.

Two Spartan Soccer Players Receive AMCC Weekly Honors

Buffalo, NY (9/6/11)-D'Youville College soccer moves into the spotlight with two players receiving weekly player awards from the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.

Sophomore goalkeeper Matt Smith (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen) was honored as the AMCC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Smith made five saves to earn his first career shutout in the Spartan's 2-0 over SUNY Old Westbury September 3rd.

Danielle Gehen (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) was named AMCC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week after scoring three goals and assisting on two more in the Spartan's 6-2 win over King's College September 3rd.

It is the first career weekly conference honor for both players.

The next men's soccer match for D'Youville (1-1) is Wednesday September 7th at Buffalo State. Start time is 4:00 p.m. The women's team, also at 1-1 on the season, will play at Oswego State Friday September 9th.

Gehen Hat Trick Powers Women's Soccer to Win

Hanburg, NY (9/3/11)-An eight point afternoon from sophomore Danielle Gehen (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) propelled D'Youville to a 6-2 non-conference win over King's College. Gehen recorded her second career hat trick and assisted on two other goals.

Freshman Mallory Hojnacki (Hamburg, NY/West Seneca Christian) scored her first career goal and added an assist and freshman Kayla Hartnett (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) added a pair of assists for her first career points.

Also scoring goals for D'Youville were Stephanie Lozzi (Youngstown, NY/Lewiston Porter) and Gabrielle Kopasz (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter).

D'Youville (1-1) plays at SUNY Oswego September 9th then returns to Buffalo to face Alfred University September 10th at Riverside High School (7 p.m.).

Men's Soccer Moves to .500 With Shutout Win

Oswego, NY (9/3/11)-Tom Barlow (Depew, NY/West Seneca Christian) scored in the 50th minute and Josh Pfuntner (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) scored an insurance marker in the 75th minute giving D'Youville College a 2-0 win over SUNY Old Westbury in the third-place match at the SUNY Oswego Tournament.

Spartan goalkeeper Matt Smith (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen) made five saves for his first career shutout.

Freshman Shawn Powers (Depew, NY/Maryvale) picked up his first career point with an assist on the Pfuntner goal.

Women's Volleyball Splits on Opening Day

Buffalo, NY (9/3/11)-D'Youville hosted a pair of teams from the North Eastern Athletic Conference Saturday in the College Center Gym.

In the first set, D'Youville rolled to a 3-0 (25-13, 25, 14, 25-6) win over Morrisville State. Luciana Payne (Buffalo, NY/Mount St. Mary Academy) recorded a match-high 13 kills and Jayde Stevens (Lawtons, NY/Gowanda) had five of the team's 17 service aces.

The Spartans closed the afternoon with a straight-set loss to Keuka. Set scores were 25-13, 27-25, 25-23. Emily McDonald (North Syracuse, NY/Liverpool) led D'Youville with nine kills, three blocks, and added 10 digs.

D'Youville (1-1) will face Alfred University September 7th in the College Center Gym. Start time is 7:00 p.m.

In other action from the NEAC-AMCC Challenge: Keuka 3 - Hilbert 1 (19-25, 26-24, 25-16, 25-20); Hilbert 3 - Morrisville State 0 (25-9, 25-23, 25-23).

Cross-Country Opens 2011 Season

Grand Island, NY (9/3/11)-Head Coach Bill Maloney begins his fifth season at the helm for the D'Youville College women's cross-country team and the Spartans opened the 2011 season with a team score of 247, good for eighth place, at the Buffalo State/Dan Walker Invitational.

Melyssa Peplowski (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East) finished 50th overall with a time of 23:00 on the five-kilometer course at Beaver Island State Park.

D'Youville will compete next at the Hamilton College Short Course Invitational September 10th.

Men's Soccer Scores First But Bows at Oswego

Oswego, NY (9/2/11)-Josh Pfuntner (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) scored the game's first marker in the 26th minute but Oswego State went on to win the season opener for both teams 4-1.. Stephen Acheampong (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus) assisted on the Pfuntner goal.

D'Youville (0-1) will play in the third-place game of the Oswego State tournament tomorrow (Sep. 3) at 1 p.m. versus SUNY Old Westbury.

Women's Soccer Defeated in Season Opener

Hamburg, NY (9/2/11)-D'Youville College opened the 2011 season with a 5-0 loss to visiting Grove City College. Stephanie Lozzi (Youngstown, NY/Lewiston-Porter) recorded a team-high three shots on goal.

D'Youville (0-1) will play King's College tomorrow (Sep. 3) at 2:00 p.m. The non-conference match will be played at the Lakeview Road Recreation Area (aka Nike Base) in Hamburg, NY.

Captains Named For Men's Soccer

Buffalo, NY (8/30/11)-Head Coach Matt McCormick has named three team captains for the 2011 D'Youville College men's soccer season.

Seniors Tom Barlow (Depew, NY/West Seneca Christian) and Mark Wallenhorst (Forestville, NY/St. Francis) along with junior Brendan Frawley (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) will share the captaincy role this season.

Barlow is the team's most experienced player with 52 career games to his credit. Wallenhorst has played three seasons with 34 caps to his credit. Frawley is expected to be the team's top goalkeeper this season.

"I expect the experience and leadership of our captains will help to carry us this season further than we have ever gone,” states McCormick.

Women's Soccer Captains Announced

Buffalo, NY (8/29/11)-D’Youville College women’s soccer Head Coach Lew Potter has named seniors Stephanie Lozzi (Youngstown, NY/Lewiston-Porter) and Gabrielle Kopasz (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter) as team captains for the 2011 season.

This is the second-straight season in a captains’ role for Lozzi who is coming off a career best year in 2010. Last season Lozzi totaled 10 goals and 26 points and was First-Team Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference selection. In three seasons as a Spartan Lozzi has 23 goals and 54 points, good for second on the program’s all-time scoring list.

Kopasz is in her second season with D’Youville after playing two seasons at Daemen College. In 2010 Kopasz played in 15 games and anchored a defensive corps that recorded a single-season program-record three shutouts.

“Our captains set the tone for our team with their experience and leadership,” Potter says.

DYouville opens the season with a pair of matches in Western New York. September 2nd they face Grove City College at 4:00 p.m. at Hamburg High School and September 3rd the Spartans play King’s College at 2:00 p.m. at the Lakeview Road Recreation Area in Hamburg, NY.

Current Spartans Host Former Spartans in Men's Soccer Alumni Match

Buffalo, NY (8/28/11)-In the first annual D'Youville College men's soccer match Alumni Match, Stephen Acheampong (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus) scored twice to lead the 2011 Spartans to a 4-1 win over the visiting squad of former Spartans.

Rudrick Quarshie, the team's leading scorer in 2002 and 2003, scored in the 66th minute for the Alumni. Rich Wieand, the program's all-time save leader and current goalkeeper coach, turned back 12 shots.

Men's Soccer to Host Alumni August 28th

Buffalo, NY (8/25/11)-For the first time in the program's history, the D'Youville College men's soccer team will play a match against their own former players. The 2011 Alumni Game will take place Sunday August 28th at 9:00 a.m. on the current Spartan's home turf at Riverside High School (51 Ontario St; Buffalo, NY).

Scheduled to appear for the Alumni: Kyle Trimble, Erik Kastner, Andrew Fogelsonger, Ted Maul, Adam Huczel, Corey Lewis, John Georgiou, Scott Beseth, Matt Burns, Kevin Buffham, Alex Sikorski, Austin Houlding, Joe Lorenzetti, Joe Amico, Matt Profeta, Lamin Trawalley, Yusif Gibril, and Rudrick Quarshie.

"We're looking forward to the beginning of an annual event and a great opportunity to have the past meet the present," said Spartan's Head Coach Matt McCormick.

Bolea Expands Coaching Role at D'Youville

Buffalo, NY (8/8/11)-Nick Bolea was named the Head Coach of the women's tennis coach back in June and today the first-year coach accepted the additional role of leading the D'Youville College men's tennis program as their coach.

A graduate of Niagara University, Bolea played three seasons for the Purple Eagles (2006-2009) with 48 Division I singles matches and 27 doubles matches to his credit. In his senior season Bolea posted his career best year winning a team-high 11 matches in singles play.

Bolea began his collegiate tennis career at Slippery Rock University in 2005-06 and played first singles for the NCAA Division II school winning nine matches, but the program was discontinued after his freshman season.

The Spartans had a breakout season in 2011 qualifying for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament in their first season of league play. The team returns their top two players from last season, Stephen Beatty (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) and CJ Schummer (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home), and open the 2012 schedule February 19th at Edinboro University.

Poll Has Spartans Picked for Fourth

Buffalo, NY (8/2/11)-In the 2011 preseason poll conducted by the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference women's soccer coaches, D'Youville College was picked to finish fourth in the conference.

The Spartans went 5-4 in AMCC play last season, qualified for the AMCC Tournament, and recorded the program's first-ever winning record with an 11-7 overall mark.

"I think it's a sign of the respect our program is gaining," said Head coach Lew Potter. "Last year the AMCC coaches picked us to finish ninth out of ten teams."

Potter was the 2010 AMCC Coach of the Year and is entering his third season at the helm for the Spartans.

D'Youville will open the season Friday September 2nd versus Grove City College.

New Hire for Athletics Announced

Buffalo, NY (8/1/11) – D’Youville College has named Earl Schunk to the position of head men’s basketball coach and assistant athletic director.

Schunk has been on the bench as a varsity coach in Western New York for 21 seasons. The most recent was in 2010-11, leading a young Tapestry High School team to a record of 17-4 and the Section IV Class C finals.

Before that he was the varsity coach at Grover Cleveland High School from 1998-2010 compiling a 165-64 record and two league championships (2004, 2008).  In 2003-04 the President’s won Section IV Class C championship and advanced all the way to the New York State Public High School Championship’s Final Four.  That season Schunk was honored by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York as their Section IV Coach of the Year.

 “Coach Schunk will make a great addition to our athletic staff bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to our student athletes,” said Brian Cavanaugh, director of D’Youville Athletics.  “Clearly Earl is a legend in Western New York basketball circles and will have an immediate positive impact on our men’s basketball program.”

A graduate of Canisius College, Schunk spent 33 years in the Buffalo Public School system teaching mathematics and technology integration and has coached basketball, baseball, cross-country, track and field, and softball at Grover Cleveland High School.

“I’d like to make D’Youville a key destination college for high school players in Western New York and the surrounding area, and develop teams that people want to watch and where students are represented well,” Schunk said.  “I’ve learned in my years of high school teaching that sports are a microcosm of life and young athletes learn how to deal with many situations they can use in life.”

Coach Schunk will make his debut with the Spartans Saturday November 5th when D’Youville will host an exhibition game in the College Center Gym against Brock University (Ontario).

New Head Coach for Women's Tennis Named

Buffalo, NY (6/21/11)-Director of Athletics Brian Cavanaugh is pleased to announce that Nick Bolea of North Tonawanda, NY has been selected to lead the women’s tennis program at D’Youville College as its new Head coach.

Samantha Rowen (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East), was a conference finalist in first singles and first doubles. Jessica Lampka (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) was a conference finalist in third singles and reaching the conference finals in sixth singles was Angela Poblocki (Akron, NY/Akron). All three will be sophomores this fall.
