D'Youville Loses Two at Franciscan
Steubenville, OH (4/3/11)-Brent Gibbs (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) had two hits and three RBI in game one at Franciscan.
D'Youville (2-10, 0-4 AMCC) plays Medaille April 5th at McCarthy Park in Buffalo. Start time is 1:00 p.m.
Baseball Swept in First AMCC Doubleheader
Greensburg, PA (3/26/11)-Back from Florida, te D'Youville College baseball team opened the conference portion of their schedule wit two losses at Pitt-Greensburg.
In game one, Brett Shay (Elmira, NY/Elmira-Notre Dame) had two RBI for the Spartans in the 10-3 loss. In the nightcap, Brent Gibbs (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) had two hits in the 7-3 loss.
The next date for the Spartans is April 2nd versus Franciscan University.
Last Inning Rally Edges Spartans
Winter Haven, FL (3/22/11)-In the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader, Lawrence University (WI) needed a two-run walk-off single to beat D'Youville 4-3. Brett Shay (Elmira, NY/Elmira-Notre Dame) had two RBI. D'Youville lost the nightcap 9-2.
Baseball Splits Doubleheader
Winter Haven, FL (3/20/11)-Baseball won their second-straight game by taking the opening game of Sunday's doubleheader against Lawrence (WI) 9-7. It is the second doubleheader split in as many days.
Stephen Gladysz (Amherst, NY/Canisius) had three hits and three RBI and starting pitcher Bob Mohring (Depew, NY/St. Mary's) got the win. Brent Gibbs (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) had a pair of hits then earned his first career save
In the nightcap, Brett Shay (Elmira, NY/Elmira-Notre Dame) had three hits and Nate Wiles (Lockport, NY/St. Joseph's CI) added a pair of hits and three RBI in the Spartan's loss.
D'Youville (2-4) continues play in Florida on Tuesday (Mar. 22) with a twin-bill agianst Union College (NY).
Baseball's First Win Highlights Busy Day For Spartan Sports
(3/19/11)-In Winter Haven, Florida, Shayne Christie (Brampton, ONT/Cardinal Leger) singled home the winning run in the last at-bat to give baseball a 7-6 win over Loras College (IL) in the doubleheader nightcap. Baseball is now 1-3 on their opening season Florida trip.
In Clermont Florida, softball dropped their first two of the 2011 season, losing to Eastern Connecticut State and Wellesley.
Back home men's tennis had their two-match winning streak halted by Penn State Altoona.
Baseball's Late Charge Comes Up Short
Winter Haven, FL (3/18/11)-In the nightcap of baseball's season opening doubleheader versus Kalamazoo, the Spartans scored five times in their final at-bat and left the tying run on second base before bowing 12-10.
The Spartans hammered out 17 hits, led by Brent Gibbs (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) had three hits and Matt Glowish (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) added a pair of hits.
In the opener, Stephen Gladysz (Amherst, NY/Canisius) smacked a pair of doubles in the loss.
The Spartans next play Loras College March 19th at 1:30 p.m. in Winter Haven, Florida.
Dandes Selected to Lead D'Youville Baseball Program
Buffalo, NY (8/9/10)-Director of Athletics Brian Cavanaugh announces the hiring of Leo Dandes as the new Head Coach of baseball at D’Youville College.
Dandes comes to D’Youville after serving the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Medaille College and has worked as a guest clinic instructor at University at Buffalo, Midwest Baseball Academy, and Eden Athletic Association.
After graduation from the Nichols School Dandes played four seasons of NCAA Division I baseball, first at the University at Buffalo for two seasons then at Saint Peter’s College. At St. Peter’s, Dandes was a part of that program’s record-setting year of 2007 that set new school single-season standards for overall wins and conference victories and twice was named to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic Team.
“Coach Dandes will bring a tremendous amount of experience to our program, as a former student-athlete and a coach,” says Brian Cavanaugh. “His energy and passion for the game will be a great asset to D’Youville College.”
A resident of East Amherst, NY, Dandes holds a B.A. in Political Science from Saint Peter’s College and is a 2010 graduate of the University at Buffalo School of Law.
His father, Jon Dandes, is the President of Rich Baseball Operations.
The first-year coach inherits a Spartan program that is coming off their highest win total since 2002.
