“I would recommend others to get involved in something because it is a great way to meet friends, build connections, and gain new experiences.”
Currently, I am in Student Association, the student-run government on campus. It has been quite the experience being in different roles within Student Association. I have been a senator, treasurer, and vice president. These positions have been very rewarding, especially being able to expand my leadership role. I also went on the “Lending A Hand” trip to New Orleans in 2012. It was such a great experience being able to meet new people and serve others down in New Orleans. I never was that involved in school clubs in high school, so it is a great way to meet people and make connections. I would recommend others to get involved in something because it is a great way to meet friends, build connections, and gain new experiences.
I have been involved in cross country the past two years here at D'Youville. We normally practice in the early evenings, before dinner. D'Youville is part of the AMCC conference, so we do not travel too far. Last year we had an overnight meet in Pennsylvania, but most of our meets are day trips. Cross country has really made me able to manage my time better. I know that I have practice or meets at certain times, so I make sure I spend time doing school work even if it means spending more time in the library instead of hanging out with friends.
One of my goals in life is to become a physical therapist. I've always wanted to help people, children, in the health care field, and becoming a physical therapist seemed to be the best fit for me. D'Youville, in part of their curriculum for the undergrad degree in Exercise Sports and Studies, has requirements for observation and internship hours. The staff works with you to find the best fit for you. I always wanted to observe a pediatric physical therapist and for my observation hours, I was able to observe one. D'Youville really tries to succeed in giving you the background you need in order to go into the field for your particular career.
