I chose D’Youville because of its academics. I’m not the greatest test taker in the world, and I didn’t want to chance my future as a Physical Therapist on a test. D’Youville offered me a great chance to finish my undergraduate degree and still have a seat saved in the Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program. I then decided that the Physical Therapy Program was not want I really wanted, and I was able to change my major to the Master’s in Business Administration degree.
This is my second year of participating in Student Ambassadors, and I am having a blast! Within my first couple of weeks working I met so many different people that I never would have met before.
“The professors here are all certified in the course that they teach, and many are still working in their profession.”
My biggest advice to you is to be active in campus life because the more you put into being active the better, and more fun, your college experience will be!!
I have played soccer for five years (I redshirted my freshman year)! The biggest thing that soccer has shown me when it comes to my academic career is how to manage my time. In high school, my mom would say “you can't go to practice unless all your homework is done.” I'm glad she instilled that in me, because playing a sport in college is just the icing on top of the whole experience! You are first and foremost a student, and here at D'Youville the coaches understand that! Don't get me wrong, it's stressful, but it pays off in the end.
When I played at D'Youville, our coach made sure that he didn't schedule a training session or a match on Tuesday or Thursday because those are the days that labs are scheduled. Training sessions were held early evening at a local high school. When it came to traveling, there were opportunities to study, on the bus rides and during free time.
It's up to you as the Student Athlete, to be responsible for your own academic career. Professors are more than willing to work with you as long as you give them ample warning. There are also tutors that will work with you to create a class and study schedule, as you become your own “mom.”
I am currently working on my Master's in Business Administration and my Health Service Administration Professional Certificate. In the short amount of time I have been taking graduate level classes, I have realized that there are so many different opportunities available within the field of Business and Healthcare. Eventually I would love to own my own sport rehabilitation clinic, and my dream is to one day eventually own a clinic in Italy!
With D'Youville all of these things are possible! The professors here are all certified in the course that they teach, and many are still working in their profession, outside of teaching. As students this gives us many opportunities to network with friends of our professors. We also do our own networking when we are out on our internships and in everyday life.
