Advanced Certificate Programs
Advanced certificate programs can be completed in two to three semesters. All courses are registered with the New York State Education Department and are offered in both spring and fall semesters. Graduate tuition and fees apply. Advanced certificate programs are offered in the following areas:
Health Services Administration
Clinical Research Associate
A clinical research associate monitors the administration and progress of a clinical trial on behalf of a pharmaceutical company or other sponsor. This program provides knowledge and skills in monitoring scientific studies toward the advancement of knowledge and improvement of health. The certificate is 15 credit hours consisting of five 3-credit graduate courses. These courses are part of the Master of Science degree in Health Services Administration.
Health Services Administration
This program provides a focused course of study for individuals seeking a management role. It offers knowledge and skills to those seeking to advance their careers in health systems. The 15-credit- hour program consists of five 3-hour graduate courses. These courses are part of the Master of Science degree in Health Services Administration.
Improving Performance
This program provides students with the knowledge and skills to assess performance of an agency and to take measures to improve performance. Emphasis is on the systems approach to performance improvement with the application of communications and change leadership.
Long Term Care Administration
Provides students with the knowledge to succeed in a career in long-term care administration. This is a 15-credit-hour program consisting of five 3-credit-hour graduate courses. The courses are a component of the Health Services Administration master's degree program. Candidates may also apply these courses to the HSA master's degree. The courses meet the educational requirements for licensing of nursing home administrators in New York State. The certificate can be completed in 12 months. A bachelor's degree is required to enroll.
Nursing
Family Nurse Practitioner
Designed for students who have already earned a master's degree in nursing, this 28-credit-hour program can be completed in 12 to 18 months. Graduates will be eligible to take the Family NP Certification Exam. Students accomplish 700 hours of clinical preceptorships and are well prepared to provide primary care to patients of all ages. Case management, preventive services, prescription writing, and family/client education are an integral part of the nurse practitioner practice. Graduates work independently and with other members of the health care team to provide comprehensive patient care.
Nursing and Health-Related Professions Education
Intended for nurses and other healthcare professionals who seek a position as a faculty/teacher, clinical instructor, in-service educator or clinical education coordinator. The program is designed especially for students with a master's or doctoral degree who lack teaching experience as well as for current healthcare teachers who want to update their knowledge of educational theories, trends and resources. This certificate program is 9 credit hours consisting of three 3-credit-hour graduate level courses
Physical Therapy
Advanced Orthopedic Physical Therapy
This program offers physical therapists advanced theoretical knowledge and problem-solving skills in musculoskeletal evaluation and treatment.
Manual Physical Therapy
Provides physical therapists with advanced clinical competency while performing skilled passive movement in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions.
