Apply: Physician Assistant Program

Follow the the steps below to apply to D'Youville's Physician Assistant program.

We accept applications for admission from freshmen and transfer students for D'Youville's combined BS/MS physician assistant program.

Freshman Applicants

Applications must be submitted by October 2. 

Be sure to review the admission criteria for the Physician Assistant Combined degree program before applying.

  1. Create an account and submit your application in our application portal or submit your application through The Common Application.
  2. Forward one official copy of your high school transcript.
  3. Forward SAT and/or ACT scores. Contact your school counselor for assistance, or contact the ACT/SAT testing organizations directly.
  4. Complete the physician assistant application essay. For students using The Common Application, the physician assistant essay can be found under writing supplements.
  5. Provide 3 personal references.
Note: All essays and request for letters of recommendation can be completed through The Common Application, or through the D’Youville application portal once you submit your application.

Essay

You are required to answer each of the following questions (below). Essays should not exceed 750 words. Please answer all of these questions in your essay:

  1. Why have you chosen the physician assistant profession over other healthcare professions? 
  2. Describe what makes you distinctly qualified to pursue the physician assistant professional degree at D'Youville College. 
  3. Identify the methods you used to research the physician assistant profession.
  4. Provide examples of how you found the physician assistant profession to be different from other healthcare professions.

Additional Requirements

Applicants to the Physician Assistant program are required to complete at least 80 hours of direct patient interaction. You'll need to have your supervisor submit the verification form for this requirement. The direct patient interaction verification form can be found in a your application portal after you submit your application.

When will you hear?

Physician Assistant Applicants

Physician Assistant applicants receive admission decisions within 4-6 weeks following their on-campus interview.

Transfer Applicants

Applications must be submitted and verified by CASPA by October 2. Please be aware that verification of applications can take up to 4 weeks to be verified.

Be sure to review the admission criteria for the Physician Assistant Combined degree program before applying.

  • Transfer applicants to the physician assistant program must use the CASPA application. NOTE: Do not complete the D'Youville College online application.
  • Submit transcripts for all previous college credits, including courses in progress to CASPA
  • Letters of recommendation and an essay are required and must be completed within the CASPA application.
  • Applicants to the Physician Assistant program are required to complete at least 80 hours of direct patient interaction.
  • If selected to advance in our application process, applicants must complete an on-campus interview with faculty, students and preceptors in the D'Youville College Physician Assistant Department.
  • Prior to enrollment, you may be asked to provide proof of high school graduation or equivalent.

Supplemental Materials

The supplemental materials are available to applicants during the online application process. Transfer students will find these materials in the Course Materials section of the CASPA application.

  • Provide official documentation of at least 80 hours of direct patient contact hours either through volunteer activities or employment activities
  • Write an essay of 750 words.
  • Three reference forms, one of the three references should come from a healthcare provider or professional (i.e., a physician, RN, PA, etc.) who has observed the candidate in a healthcare setting (either volunteer or employed)
