Educating for Life... In Another Country

Travel is an immediate expansion of a person’s worldview. At D’Youville College, where the emphasis is on “educating for life,” we believe that studying abroad enhances a person’s life while allowing them to earn academic credits for the semester. The Study Abroad Program is under the guidance of the Liberal Arts Department, which makes available 12 to 15 credit hours in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Since these courses are required by the Core Curriculum, students generally keep pace with their graduating class. Many students remark that their travel abroad experience is among the highlights of their D’Youville College education.

Locations

Oxford UniversityProgram locations are generally in Italy and England. There are several other locations, but we schedule the semester based on student interest surveys, and these two countries have proven the most popular over the past few years. Our program is affiliated with the Center for Academic Programs Abroad (CAPA), whose 35 year experience of coordinating academic programs operates the onsite curricular programs.

Study and Travel!

Students register for full-time academic credit in courses that are D’Youville College courses but taught by faculty abroad at the designated location. Included in the semester coursework are cultural travels in the host country, and ample time is provided on weekends for visits to nearby countries. This provides students with opportunities to visit historic cities and cultural centers they might otherwise be acquainted with only through history books. Our students return with wonderful tales of journeys from Italy to Spain, France, Germany and Greece. All of this while excelling in their studies!
