"I like that I get to know my students individually and that they can get to know me."
I started teaching at D’Youville in 2001. I like that I get to know my students individually and that they can get to know me. I value that smaller environment and encourage them to come to me if they ever have questions, need help or just want to talk. In addition to classroom teaching, I am part of the clinical education team so I interact with students when they are on their clinical fieldwork. I help to make sure that they are in a positive environment and learning the skills they will need once they graduate.
While I was in Physical Therapy school, I was drawn to cardiovascular and pulmonary PT. It marries my greatest interest of PT with medical knowledge. I found my clinical fieldwork rotation in cardiopulmonary rehab to be amazing and knew at that point that I would eventually practice that type of PT. Now my research focuses on cardiovascular disease risk factor education and physical activity for people with type 2 diabetes.
I am a runner and in my spare time, I like doing almost anything outdoors: camping, biking, hiking, swimming. I am a certified scuba diver. Mostly I love spending time with my husband and two kids.
