"I enjoy guiding students toward professional development."
I enjoy guiding students toward professional development and so keenly appreciate their growth toward professionals. I also enjoy watching many of them "grow up"! Many of the colleagues I work with in the community, at the clinical sites and as fieldwork educators, are former students. We continue to interact and learn from each other.
I meet with students to coach them about their clinical choices and placements. I visit them at their clinical sites and see them at area professional development events. As a co-owner of a continuing education company, my business partner and I always extend an invitation to D'Youville students to attend our events at either a free or discounted rate. Also, we often recruit students to assist at events and they, in turn, attend for free.
I chose occupational therapy because it allows me to invest in improving, enhancing and maintaining the lives of others through close, personal therapeutic intervention into their activities of daily living.
I'm conducting research on the effectiveness of organ and tissue donation education for employees at the worksite. I'm also interested in falls prevention research with an interest in making an effect on professionals who evaluate and treat older adults, such that falls and fall risks will be reduced.
