"… My clinical experience includes individual and couples therapy for many problems such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, substance abuse, and adjustment disorders."

I’m a generalist when it comes to my clinical and research backgrounds. At the beginning of my career I researched memory and its application to forensic issues like eyewitness and earwitness accuracy. More recently, I’ve conducted research on depression, cultural competence and health outcomes; co-dependency and addiction; and teaching methodologies. My clinical experience includes individual and couples therapy for many problems such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, substance abuse, and adjustment disorders.

I was fortunate when I was a student to have a faculty mentor expose me to research. Thanks to this experience I earned the distinction of presenting my undergraduate thesis at the annual meeting of the American Psychology Association. From that experience a social scientist was born.

It is rare for me to not get to know a student who comes through our undergraduate psychology program both personally and professionally. I’ve also been fortunate to assist graduate students at D’Youville, who are conducting research in related disciplines, such as occupational and physical therapy and health administration.

Students who want to learn about and experience careers in psychology thrive in our program. We have two required internships and they are tailored to the student’s interests and abilities. You would be hard pressed to find more extensive undergraduate internship requirements anywhere. We also provide students with various course topics and hands-on professional mentorship in our professional career seminars.

I often liken my relationship to my students and alumni to that of an extended family. The intimate size of our classes and seminars gives me a vested interest in seeing our students succeed.
