Work Station Ergonomics 101: Posturing for a better workplace

This interactive workshop addresses comprehensive back care in an office environment to help prevent and manage back pain due to prolonged postures. Topics include understanding some of the causes of back pain in the workplace, prevention of injury through postural/ergonomic education, and basic back exercises and healthy habits that prevent and alleviate aches and pain.

Every day, 99% of information that ascends through our nervous system is discarded by the brain. Active learning practices can ensure that relevant information is transferred to long-term memory. The use of mentor-mediated contracts between a student and an academic advisor or course instructor can be used to promote self-regulated learning and improve student performance. This session discusses possible scenarios for initiating a student learning-contract and provides participants with an opportunity to practice creating one.
