At D'Youville you are not just a number and it shows with the empathy that the professors provide and the relationships you foster along the way.
I became interested in a career as a pharmacist when I was in high school. I had the opportunity to shadow a pharmacist and was impressed with the relationships that they develop with their patients. It's that rapport that is so rewarding. Before I enrolled in D'Youville College's School of Pharmacy (DYCSoP), I worked as a technician in a pharmacy. There I realized the impact that a pharmacist could have on a patient's life and I wanted to emulate that.
The most exciting part about being a student at DYCSoP is being part of something completely new. The school was developed using insight from some of the best pharmacy schools across the country. It's a great learning environment and I am excited that what the faculty are teaching us is where the future of pharmacy lies.
I've had multiple introductory pharmacy practice experiences (IPPEs) in my college career so far. This is one of the best aspects of the program in my opinion. Our rotations are scheduled for the middle of the semester for two weeks, with no classes scheduled during that time, so that we can concentrate on the practice experience. So far my IPPEs have included a large community hospital, a long-term care facility and several independent pharmacies.
D'Youville has given me many opportunities to really thrive as leader. As class president and with the help of my classmates, we set up a fundraiser to donate school supplies to Hutch-Tech, a public high school in the City of Buffalo. I've served as treasurer for American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) and as founding father of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity here on campus. As co-chair for GenerationRx (a patient care project), our team won a national award!
I have met some life-long friends and colleagues here. It is a huge advantage to know your classmates at this level because pharmacy is such a small world and you never know when you will cross paths again. At D'Youville you are not just a number and it shows with the empathy that the professors provide and the relationships you foster along the way.
