School of Pharmacy

Welcome to the D’Youville College School of Pharmacy web site. Through the vision and leadership of D’Youville’s president, Sr. Denise Roche, and with the approval of the Board of Trustees, D’Youville College began planning for a new school of pharmacy in western New York. In 2008, Assistant Dean for Student and Faculty Affairs, Dr. Canio Marasco, and Founding Dean, Dr. Gary Stoehr, began recruiting the leadership team to guide development of the new program. Dr. David Gettman was recruited to be the chair of the Department of Social and Administrative Sciences, Drs. Robert Leopold and Robert Drobitch were named chair of the Departments of Pharmacy Practice and Pharmaceutical Sciences, respectively, and John Koford was appointed Director of Experiential Learning. With the leadership group in place, planning for the new school of pharmacy began in earnest.

Pharmacy building - architect's renderingThe new program is designed to prepare students to practice in an inter-professional patient-centered environment where pharmacists are responsible for assisting patients in managing their medication regimens. Graduates of the program will be taught to communicate effectively with patients and other health care practitioners, to solve problems related to drug therapy regimens, and to develop and evaluate programs to improve the health of the communities they serve.

The D’Youville College mission’s emphasis on leadership and service to the community is reflected in the pharmacy program. Students will practice leadership skills while working collaboratively with their colleagues and the faculty on problem sets, case analyses, and class and service projects. Through class exercises and practice experiences the new pharmacy program will teach students to care for patients and communities.
