The professors at D'Youville make the study of biology interesting.
I'm currently conducting research with Dr. Silviu Faitar in the Cellular and Molecular Biology Research Laboratory. Dr. Faitar's previous research determined where a certain protein was during the different phases of the cell cycle. We're building on this research and trying to find out where another protein, that is genetically very similar to the first, is located within the cell.
After I graduate, I would like to go into a career field where I can help people with their physical ailments. I hope to attend medical school. As of now I would like to specialize in dermatology, but I'm sure as I become exposed to different specialties that this may change. No matter what, I think my efforts would be best spent in an area where I can genuinely relate to my patient.
As a DYC student, I've been involved in many activities that have led to friendships that will remain long after I receive my diploma. I've been a part of the D'Youville Club Hockey Team since it was established in 2010. I was given the honor of being the assistant captain last year and continue to serve in that role. I am also the treasurer for the club.
I've had the opportunity to do community service through Hasek's Heroes, an organization that teaches low-income kids basic skating and hockey skills. I teach young children how to skate and refine their skating skills. It means a lot to me to share what I know and to see the kids enjoy skating as much as I do.
