Living in London, taking interesting classes and traveling with friends to amazing places in Europe really changed me as a person.
I decided to study sociology because I am interested in the way society operates in regard to an individual’s social class, race, gender and religious beliefs. It’s interesting to see how these factors influence our nation’s culture. As a student, I become more and more knowledgeable every day about factors that make up our society.
Through community service done through D’Youville, I have gained a wide perspective of living conditions and urban issues facing some areas in the city of Buffalo. That experience really inspired me in to become a professional that can make change in the community.
Last fall I had the opportunity to study abroad in London, UK. Living in an international city, taking interesting classes and traveling with friends to amazing places in Europe really changed me as a person. While I was there I completed an internship with the sculptor Jane McAdam Freud. It was an amazing experience to be able to work so closely with a practicing, successful artist.
One of the reasons I decided to attend D’Youville was the location. The college is so close to Lake Erie and all that the city of Buffalo has to offer. The entertainment district on Elmwood is so close, and I really like the urban feel.
After I graduate, I plan to continue my studies and pursue a master’s degree in sociology. I would also like to travel more in between!
