IT Program Highlights
Technical coursework for the BS in information technology is organized into three levels. The first focuses on information systems fundamentals, personal productivity, systems theories and practices. The second level includes hardware and software programming, data, object structures, networks and telecommunications, and the third level includes information systems development and management processes.
Program Options
IT students can select one of four professional options:
- 1. Multimedia and web publishing
- Focuses on the presentation and organization of information. Topics include human-machine interface, organization and retrieval of information, digital libraries, multimedia web programming, web publishing design principles and implementation, digital audio, and video theories and applications.
- 2. Database information systems
- Teaches the skills needed to design, develop, deploy, and manage advanced information systems using state-of-the-art tools and techniques. Topics include database administration and management, distributed database configuration and implementation, multimedia database theories and applications, database programming, advanced data modeling techniques, data warehousing, information security, and encryption techniques.
- 3. Networking and communication systems
- Focuses on effective information delivery. Topics include enterprise network configuration and management, network programming, wireless communication theories and applications, distributed computing, network security and performance, telecommunication, and information law and policy.
- 4. Systems integration and management
- Teaches the theory and skills needed for developing, integrating and managing technology infrastructure and systems. Topics include OS scripting, systems administration, systems engineering, software engineering, software quality and reliability, and project management.
