Admissions Requirements
Education Master's Degree Programs
(Elementary, Secondary, Special & TESOL)
Admission to master's level programs in D'Youville's Department of Education is based on the qualifications of each individual student. A GPA of 3.0 (equivalent to a B) or better is the minimum requirement for acceptance into our programs. Students with a lower GPA may be considered for provisional acceptance based upon personal and professional qualifications.
Additional Requirements
In addition to the general admission requirements, applicants must present the following:
- Completion of a baccalaureate degree consisting of 120 credits.
- At least one letter of recommendation written by someone who has observed you working with children or young adults.
- A current resume
- Letter of intent
Applicants must have completed 30 credit hours of prerequisites (with a grade of "C" or higher), with at least 3 credit hours in each of the following areas:
- English
- Social Sciences
- Mathematics
- Natural Sciences
- Foreign Language
Specific Program Requirements
In addition, applicants for the following graduate programs must meet the specific requirements for admission into the program:
Adolescence Education
Complete 30 credit hours of coursework within their specific teaching certification area, with a grade of "C" or higher.
TESOL
Students in the TESOL program must also complete 12 credit hours of foreign language coursework at the college level or its equivalent prior to entry into the TESOL program.
