Dietetics
D’Youville College’s BS/MS Dietetics program combines an undergraduate and graduate education within a variety of professional settings and offers practice in conducting research. This five-year coordinated program (CP) is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (see accreditation section) and offers an innovative departure from traditional four-year coordinated programs and those that require an additional internship year. In addition, this program is consistent with the emerging recommendation of the American Dietetic Association regarding the importance of a graduate degree in the field of nutrition.
Students gain practical experience in local facilities that support the development of professional skills in clinical dietetics, food service management, and nutrition education. Graduates of the five-year program receive a combined BS/MS degree and are eligible to take the national exam to become a Registered Dietitian.
Curriculum Information
Students may enter the program as high school graduates or as graduates or transfers from two and four year colleges. The curriculum plan will depend on your previous course work. Some common plans are listed below.
- High school students.
- Students who have completed a four-year dietetic program. (Note: Student may choose this path in place of dietetic internship.)
- Students who have completed a two-year dietetic technician program.
- Students who have completed a non-dietetics four-year degree
