Opportunities for Chiropractors

Chiropractic is the most frequently used alternative healthcare in the United States and is recognized today as one of the fastest growing healthcare professions. In December 2000, there were over 81,000 active licensed chiropractors in the United States. The practice of chiropractic is licensed in all 50 states and in over 30 countries worldwide.

Most chiropractors are in solo practice, although some are in group practice or work for other chiropractors. A small number teach, conduct research at chiropractic institutions, or work in hospitals and clinics. Many chiropractors are located in small communities.

Postgraduate residency programs are also available in chiropractic orthopedics, chiropractic radiology and chiropractic neurology. These residency programs can provide additional opportunities within a chiropractic practice or health related institution.

According to a 2003 survey report in Chiropractic Economics, the net median income for chiropractors in the northeastern United States is between $105,000 and $109,000.
